Those are much better posters. They actually look like real people!

Tauriel has a widow's peak?
If you have to give me a made-up (but cute) elf, at least don't make her look like a vampire!

I agree, that part of her wig is ugly, the rest of it is lovely and long but the part on her forehead looks clunky and wrong for her face. It actually makes her less attractive. It should be softer, it looks like a Klingon wrinkly head.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
Out of interest does anyone know if Tauriel actually has a basis in Sindarin? My knowledge of Elvish is extremely sketchy but I gather most of it was made up for the films?
Bard still looks a little posh for me, I always pictured Michael Fassbender with a bushy beard for some reason.
Figgs...if only you could photoshop her permanently in the films, I'd much rather be laughing at her then shaking my fists...

Can we photoshop the entire movie out of existence so I don't think about it anymore?

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
very good point and also, not to step on anyone's toes, but the reason there are no dark skinned or any sort of racial (except some of the characterisations tolkien gives men of rohan and gondor) thing is simply because it doesn't make sense. Middle Earth being north and kinda around where europe is and.. well yeah. anyways--halfwise wrote:Uh, in modern society. Back before most of the population moved out of farm work (not that long ago) pasty white skinned was the mark of the aristocracy which did not work outside, and hence was considered desirable. Tolkien was of the tail end of that era, so pale skin was unconsciously considered aristocratic. Note the descriptions of Faramir, Arwen, etc (even though Faramir spent a fair amount of time outside). Aragorn disguised his kingliness by being "weatherbeaten" which would included deeply tanned skin.
FIGG WHAT DID U DO TO HER LOVELY HAIR?!

This isn't a new photo, but I thought it was symbolic of the way these movies were being written.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
I get why it's called Photoshop, much like real Camera shops the service is crap and the products confusing.
Oh come on Bungo...as a comedy it succeeds on many levels?
The Poopy hair, bouncing Dwarves, the ham fisted dialogue and Jackson's 'understanding of Tolkien' I found it pretty hillarious...
And Norc I swear seeing a screenshot of Nori in erebor with his hair done up again...what does he use instead of hair gel?

hair is always a bit easier to groom when it is dirty, also they have yak-hair and .. idk, if he got desperate he'd use ear-wax i guessmalickfan wrote:

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
The brow line looks better. Not sure why you mucked with the hair down below her shoulders though. But I think to do it right would take an hour or so. The fact that you could make the brow line look somewhat real in a short amount of time I'd say is actually impressive work, even if the rest is all blurry and stuff.Mrs Figg wrote:I know. Norc that certainly sounds like a plausible if disgusting solution.
Definitely a possibly for DOS EE I guess.

The Mirkwood costumes look good, very wood-elfish

She's challenging you to do it yourself, Norc. Throwing down a gauntlet is snippy way to challenge you to a fight.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
The films did include a lot of invented Elvish (we just had a discussion about this in another thread recently), but Tauriel is a legit Sindarin name. Taur means "forest", as seen in Taur-nu-Fuin, the Sindarin translation of Mirkwood (originally applied to Dorthonion in the First Age). The suffix -iel means "daughter (of)" (along with the male -ion). So Tauriel means "daughter of the forest".malickfan wrote:Out of interest does anyone know if Tauriel actually has a basis in Sindarin? Has she got some kind of disease? The back of her head appears to be missing...
