Re: Holidays and absences [2]
OK....
So it was my first cruise and I have nothing similar to compare it to but overall thoughts were good... not amazing though.
Good points:
Great to stop off at lots of new places without having to think about getting there.
Mostly good destinations. Vigo in Spain sucked arse... not sure what the point was. Loved Italy; Rome was nice (I am used to London so the crowds of people is normal for me) and Cinque Terre was beautiful. Would love to go back. Cartagena was nice; great Roman Theatre to see. Lisbon was a surprise, would like to go back there one day.
Food was great, we didn't check out the ones that came with an extra charge because the rest were really nice.
Staff were great.
Facilities were generally good.
Bad points:
Lack of freedom... when you are on the boat you have no choice but to be on it. When you are in port you have very strict times to be back or the boat will leave without you.
The boat did feel a little crowded at times. Luckily we aren't sun lovers so didn't have to fight for sunbeds.
Motion sickness.... didn't throw up but didn't feel great a lot. Nothing you can do about that.
Overall would give a 6/10 when compared to other family holidays we have been on. Wouldn't rush back on another boat but we did enjoy our time. Also seen a few places that are now on my list to go back to and see properly!

We got the boat from Porto Venere and stopped at a few... we didn't get off until Monte Rosso though.... no time for any more.

Thanks guys. I had a nice time. Although I got a cold and ended up spending most of the weekend inside. *sniff*

One month of Christmas holiday.. Two months of summer holiday.. I guess one shouldn't complain.

Re: Holidays and absences [2]
i had four months of summer vacation this year... (although i worked some)..
Re: Holidays and absences [2]
Ah, yes. You're right. I guess I had about three months this year. Which is.. nice.
My brother had almost as much as me, from his job as a guitar teacher, but was nowhere near as happy about. But I guess when it's your livelihood, having three months of unpaid vacation isn't necessarily a good thing.
I like having summer off though. I think that's one of the good things about being a student. Being in charge of you're own time. Although it can go a bit far. On my course up until a couple of years ago you basically had to show for up 12 hours once a year to do your exams, and then write your Master at the end. And that was it. Obviously there were courses and lectures and stuff, but nothing was mandatory. It's pretty much still like that, except for having the exams each semester.

Re: Holidays and absences [2]
i have so much time on my hands yet at the same time i really don't. that's what's difficult with being a student. just saying.
Re: Holidays and absences [2]
You pretty much control your own time, but at the same time you feel you're wasting it if you're not doing anything worthwhile? That's very true. It can be difficult to relax. Thing is, you could be doing school stuff all the time, but that's probably not.. very healthy.
I guess it's all about finding a balance, which I'm no good at, and making sure you enjoy yourself. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Re: Holidays and absences [2]
talking of which there was one question I couldn't answer. 'would you like your child to be kind or smart. I couldn't decide which was best. if you are kind but stupid life is going to be hard, or smart and unkind you are going to be a horrible person. on balance I think its probably better to be smart. at least you can be unhappy with money.

Enjoy your vacation, Bungo. Figuring what you're going to do with it is easily half the trouble.
Talking holidays/absentees, anyone know where our glorious leader has gotten to?
