Ah, thanks Petty. Smile I know what the World Cup is; I've even watched it before. My mom's family was very excited when Italy won in 2006. Very Happy I didn't realize the qualifiers started so early, though.

Its a big world still Eldo- qualifiers take a bit of time and have to start a couple of years in advance of the competion to be finished in time.
This sort of thing tends to happen when you let other countries compete in your 'world' events! Very Happy

This is Forumshire Ally- you really wil have to be more specific- that could refer to any argument here!

Eldo the Olympics system each country gets to send atheletes, but as they tend to want the 'on form' ones countries tend to hold the races to decide that as close to the event as possible- and thats not to hard if your event lasts less than 30seconds!

The World Cup however is qualified for by different qualification in different regions of the world (Europe, South America Asia ect)- each country there plays in a group (or several groups if need be and more usually) against each other and the top two teams qualify from each group.
Scotland and Wales both got drawn in Group A (European groups)- there are 9 groups of 6 teams each for Europe alone, and each team plays each other twice (Home and away) and after that there might need to be playoffs too.
That takes a bit of time (and it has to best fitted around the players commitments to their clubs as well).

No probs Eldo.
It kind of has to be that way- if every country just got to go and compete the competion would be huge and last for months.
There would just be too many teams it would take forever to get down to two teams for the final.

I think they should start world cup qualification with a big game of Wembley to make up the 23 person squad. 50p of your nations equivalent to enter and last 23 standing are the winners.

I think those 23 should then host a reality TV contest to pick the back room staff in the format of The Apprentice.

'Sven, unregrettably, you're fired!' *Dave from the Golden Lion points at Sven*

I imagine a week to run Wembley qualifiers and 6 months for the TV (pre-recorded, boot camp and then live finals).

Then, no wasted year on qualifiers. Every country should play every other country home and away and get 1 point for a win, no points for a draw and lose a point for a loss.

On the event of top teams finishing on the same points, there will be a worldwide vote for which team scored the best goal.

On the event of them having the same amount of votes for best goal, it will go to a colouring contest, again voted on by the public. Probably something like a Halloween scene and using crayons!

Simple!
