I saw Star Trek Out of Darkness on tv. A couple of things. Whats with the gratuitous naked woman thing? Why are they trying to turn Spock into a blubbering humanoid I thought the Whole point of Spock was his difference to humans, not his ability to feel and cry?? I dont like that development AT ALL. Its like they couldnt bear that Spock wasnt touchy feely and want to make him more 'normal' well Spock being cold and logical worked ok for Nimoy so why fix what isnt broken?  It wasnt as good as the first one, not by a long way, it felt like a lumbering beast. Cumberbum was the best thing about it. It was just ok, nothing special. If this is what the franchise is going to churn out its going to fail, because it was pretty obvious boring stuff. I could see the 'Kahn super blood' thing a mile off.

fake edit, that guy in the first bit was Mickey from Dr Who.  cheers

I think STID was my most disappointing movie-going experience last year. I too enjoyed the first Abrams Trek movie, but the second was like a distillation of everything wrong with modern blockbusters. Here's hoping Abrams shows a bit more enthusiasm and care for the Star Wars sequels, not that I'm expecting much from those films...

I watched it at the cinema and thought it was ok. Watched on tv a few weeks back and realised it is actually a bit rubbish. The bit that actually annoyed me is Nimoy. He should have refused to do it... it was such a completely pointless piece and served only to link back to the originals. Same as the tribble bit.

Re super blood... I didnt get why the other 42 (or however many) in the torpedoes couldnt have been used.

I liked the first bits, the strange red planet and Mickey blowing stuff up bit, but after that it got a bit pants. The Acting seemed all a bit bland and lacking oomf, only Cumbers seemed to have any charisma to him.

Find a good book or re-read and old favourite, put the kettle on and forget about the world for a while - that's what I like to do when I feel down. That, and listening to Warren Zevon, of course Nod I hope you feel better soon too, Eldo, and get back in full when you feel up to it Smile With you, petty and even Norc not about (as much), this place is not at all the same.

I know the feeling Eldo... seems like half the forum is in the same place at the moment.

We could all do with a big holiday I think. Now... if I could only remember the details to my secret Swiss bank account.

Well, I would like to add my sympathies to what everyones been saying Eldo. Hope you are or will be feeling better.  Nod

And I think Lance picked up on something raher insightfull. We all seem to be feeling a bit deflated in the New Year. Though I seem to keep talking anyway for good or bad, even when I don't have all that much to say..

Dunno Blue, Some people say its the "winter Blues", some reckon its the shock after Christmas, where its all colourful & lights & wrapping paper & your so busy, busy, busy. Now, the wrapping paper & lights are gone, you've slowed the pace of life & your attention is brought back to daily grind. The weather makes the world look cold, grey & unwanted, You cant say it doesnt have an effect on your "soul" cos I bloody well does ! Cleaning out the "cave" can help, getting rid of things you dont use or dont want, like the shoes that look gorgeous but no way in hell can you walk for a whole day in them ! Its a lead up to Spring, we know the days are lighter, brighter, colourful flowers, natural woody perfume in the air, a bit of .....holy moly.....SUNSHINE !  affraid  We need something to stir us I think, ("us" being humanity) Essentially, we are a productive lot & time on your hands isnt necessarily conducive.

There is just too much going on in the world at the moment. Lots at work (which is normally what I am doing if I disappear for a week or 2), lots at home (building work going on so place is a mess), weather is relentlessly bad at the moment...

Fun times! Thats why I am looking forward to going back to africa again... need to get some perspective on life.

I get what you're saying Lance. That seems to be the all pervading mood around here recently.

Norc wrote:i am super stressed out lately.. and when i am stressed i can't do anything productive so i end up here ... which is not a good idea when one has tons of other stuff ... *help*

You have my complete sympathy on that, the workload and everything, but I think I've said that before.

I would say keep hold of your distractions though. Only focusing on work only seems to make that work harder, and make you dislike doing it even more. Somehow having a few distractions can even make you more focused when you actually sit down and work.

At least that's how it makes me feel.

Like Norc I'm often on here to escape too many other things to do, which tie me to the computer but I need an outlet. But then I can't spend too much time on anything creative. So I make short posts but can't write stories or sometimes even read them.

But right now I think everyone is suffering not just from post holiday winter blues, but post Hobbit movie blues. Just not as much to talk about when we've already spent a month complaining about the last one and have nearly a year to go until the next one.
