No movie of Treasure Island will ever hold a candle to the book. I first read it by flashlight under the covers when I was a kid, and I had to just keep reading because there was no way I was going to be able to go to sleep!Shocked 

That said, I was least disappointed in the 1990 Treasure Island with Charlton Heston, Oliver Reed and Christopher Lee.  There are some decent performances by some journeyman actors, some knowledgeable sailing, and overall I got the impression that the producers loved the book.

I agree about Ben Gunn, Figg, great character. And that's pretty much how it was for me too, David. I read it over and over again, I loved that book and still do, though I haven't read it in years. I've been reluctant to watch any adaptations as I've heard most of them are crap, but this one had some good reviews so I gave it a shot. I'll take it as a lesson Mad Perhaps it isn't possible to convey that sense of epic adventure on to the screen.
