Nope- Im even prepared for Capadli to not pull it off- you never know- this is Who, dear to my heart, if it doesnt seem to be working for me I will say so in my episode reviews, for now I will simply watch and see what happens- but I am certainly optimistic, I see no reason it shouldnt at this point be seen as a good choice.

Well regarded actor with a lot of experience and many top acting awards- check.
Well regarded writer- check
Oscar winning director- check
Uber Who geek all his life- check

Id say getting all that in one man is pretty damn good.

Doctor Who's future and first American show runner- Im placing my bet now.

I was hoping to see her reaction to the new Doctor- being 4 and 1/2 and all recent Doctors being quite young (although this a four and a half year old who on her last review joked she wanted Tom Baker to come back!) I was curious to see how it would go down with a kid, but nothing yet- but here she is a Who convention talking to Mccoy and Agyeman.

The Troughton/Capaldi picture is interesting. I actually thought Pertwee/Capaldi. But might be both.

I'm optimistic too, Petty. I miss Pertwee. Capaldi may be a much needed serious sensible Doctor? But not one who over acts. (Christopher Ecclestone was good).

This sort of thing was so inevitable, and one of the reasons I thought the BBC bigwigs would say no to Capaldi as lead man on their premiere family show.

So threatening a woman with rape is fine in Who, but having an actor who swore a lot while in a different series is not?  

It wouldnt be fine for the Doctor to be making the threat no- the bad guy yes.

He's an actor.  His job is to pretend to be someone he's not.  Like most actors, he pretends to be different people while working on different productions.  I don't know why this is so hard for some people to accept, unless his role in The Thick of It was so iconic that they can't associate his face with anyone but that character now. (Not singling out anyone on here, just speaking more generally.)

Yes but there was a time not so long ago when someone doing a 'kids show' on the BBC- if they at all were seen swearing, drinking ect or had done 'unsutable' prior material would find themselves out a job.
And with a big worth a lot of money brand I expected the BBC to be typically traditional in this way again- so I was (pleasantly) surprised when they werent.

so rape is an ok subject for a family show but swearing is not?

it seems even high court judges today dont think rape is too much of a big deal. even if the victim is 13.
