'I dont know what happened,' said Amarie from behind her steaming hot chocolate. 'I have been in situations worse than that before.'

Agent Nora looked at her from across the table. As much as she had managed to detach herself from what she described as 'weak' emotions, that hadnt always been the case. She had panicked before and almost cost several other agents their lives.

'Am, we have all been their before. The first fight, the first kill, the first seemingly hopeless situation. The only way you get out of them is to keep your head in the game. Freeze and its fucking game over!'

'I know,' replied Amarie, although not looking comforted by Noras no shit attitude. 'Im good now.'

Nora wasnt convinced but didnt know how else to get through. She had laid the facts down and, frankly, didnt have time for any more shit.

She looked across the large plaza in front of them. Despite his apparent warning, Nora had decided that she would stick her nose where it wasnt appreciated. They had followed his small entourage a few streets from the Basillica and in to the Plaza Grande. The 2 agents were now sitting outside a small restaurant in the North East corner.

Several large, white buildings surrounded the square including both the Palacio de Gobierno, the presidents palace, and archbishops palace amoung others. Orwell had gone in to a small building on the eastern side. One of his suited men had remained outside.

'Whats the plan from here,' asked Amarie, still sipping from her cup.

'He has to go home at some point. We will follow him, stake out his place and then when its dark, we go in after him.'

'You think it will be that easy?'

'Nope.'

Amarie didnt have time to question her any further. Off to their left, the small entourage filed out of the building and made for the road.

'Let's go,' said Nora, getting up from the table.

While the plaza was a hive of activity, its size made it seem relatively open. The agents had a clear line of sight towards their target, but their target also had the same back.

'Nora, cant they see us?'

'They havent yet. Hurry up.'

Amarie had left her small car on one of the roads next to the square. Orwell anf his squad were parked a few hundred metres ahead in a convoy of three white range rovers.

'We need to get to our car first, we need to run.'

After a few seconds, they rounded the corner on to the road. There ahead of them, the convoy stood against the curb with one of Orwells suited guards.

'Fuck! He was in the cathedral,' said Amarie in shock. Nora raised an eyebrow at her choice of language.

'Just keep running, I dont think he will notice us.'

Hesitantly, Amarie followed her. Sure enough, the guard was too busy trying to light a cigarette than to notice the two women run by. A few seconds later and they were stood by the car.

'Here comes Orwell, get in.'

They both watched through the dirty windscreen as Orwell and his men began to load up.

A shrill, high pitched sound made them both jump.

'What the fuck do you want?' Said Nora, answering her phone.

'Sorry Agent Nora,' replied the digitised but unmistakable voice of Eldorion. 'Hope I havent caught you at a bad time, but we have a big problem.'

'What kind of problem?'

'Its Agent Figg.'

'Well we dont know where she is sir,' said Eldorion, staring once again at the black conference phone in front of him.

'What about her tracking chip? Why can't we pick that up?'

'She could have either gone somewhere that it cannot transmit from or it had been destroyed.'

'Sir,' the voice of Agent Nora crackled over the long distance call. 'I'm good to go after her. I can track her fro...'

Her sentence was cut short by a rather aggressive sounding response.

'The last time you were involved we lost 6 months of the investigation Agent Nora. You will stay exactly where you are and deal with Orwell.'

'But sir,' she pleaded.

'But nothing. You will stay on your mission and see it through. Is that clear Agent Nora?'

'Yes sir.'

'What are your orders regarding Agent Figg,' said Eldorion after an awkward silence.

'Let's bring in Agent Lee. I think we need someone with no prior connections do step in and deal with this now.'

'Yes sir. She was just about to head out to Macau to recon one of our othet targets, but I will reassign her this afternoon.'

'What about me sir?' asked Nora.

'Like I said, you and Amarie need to deal with Orwell. Amarie's report said he has already spotted you so it needs to be done tonight before he disappears.'

'I'm not sure Amarie is up to the task sir. Is there anyone else that can assist?'

'No, she will be your back up. I have sparred with her before, trust me when I say she can hold her own when she really needs to.'

'You should have let me kill her.'

'You shouldn't have gone after her at all CC.'

'Fine, play with your dog.'

Figg watched as CC, or Ally or whatever she was called slammed the heavy wooden door behind her. Tyrant was stood across the room next to a frail looking wooden table. He reached in to a metal bowl resting on top and wrung out a wet cloth.

'The may hurt a little, there is an antiseptic mixed in with the water.'

Figg did not reply. Half because the pain in her leg was still quite horrific, half because she did not know what to say to him.

Tyrant applied the cold cloth to her wound. Immediately the damaged nerve endings fired sending electrical signals to her brain signifying an even more intense pain than when her flesh was broken. Her eyes watered and every inch of her body seared and her muscles clenched.

'Im sorry,' said Tyrant. Figg caught a brief glimpse of his eyes. He was sorry.

The pain slowly died down as the antiseptic did its work killing any infection in the immediate area. Anything already inside would have to remain there for now.

'Take these,' he said handing her 2 small white pills and a glass of water that had also been on the table. 'They will take a little while but should take the edge off.'

Figg found it almost ironic that the man she had been tasked with hunting down was the man that had saved her life and was now taking care of her. Tyrant... one of the most feared of the criminal world was applying bandages to her leg.

'So why did you stop her?'

'Because I still need something from you.'

Tyrants eyes once again showed his real feelings, this time betraying the words he spoke.

'If that is the real reason then you should have let her kill me.'

'What other reason could there be?'

Tyrant stared straight in to her eyes. It was almost as if he wanted her to answer on his behalf or that he physically couldn't express what was really going on in his mind.

The door swung open, smashing against the wall.

'This is nice,' said CC. 'But unfortunately this little love story will need to wait. Someone else is here.'

Tyrant got up and walked to a cabinet on the far side of the room. From inside the drawer, he pulled out a silver desert eagle pistol and tucked it in to his wasteband, followed by a very nasty looking serrated blade.

CC smiled.

'We'll deal with this and come back for the girl,' he said as he walked back toward the door. He stopped in front of CC, staring directly in to her eyes. 'Nobody touches her. Do you understand me?'

His words had a very dark tone that even CC understood. She made no reply, but the smile disappeared from her face.

As the door closed, she wondered who the 'someone' could be. Could it be Nora? Surely the boss wouldn't have sent her after everything? But who else could it be?

I've clearly missed a lot of interesting discussion in this thread, but I was reading the latest updates on my phone while sitting around the airport earlier and I'm still loving this story, Lance! It's a great take on the Forumshire characters and I'm glad you're keeping the story going. Nod

Well, I hope people can see little bits of their own personalities in some of the characters. There are a couple that we have only seen briefly that I will expand on (Orwell for example) and a few others to introduce that I hope to capture their criminal/hero alter egos.

Hope everyone is aware that they are expendable.

Also.. this is going to end up like a short story, not a full on novel. I still haven't finished my original one yet and hoping to do so before the year is up.
