Still it's far better than it was 25 years ago or so, as is true for most food and drink related things in the USA. This place was an epicureal wasteland...and that's putting it mildly.

That does look yummy bread! Here, we have supermarkets full of basically white bread. There's not a lot of choice if you want healthier versions, The fresh bakery is no different. So its either make your own or settle for what you can get. Anything thats seen as Foreign bread, the price goes way up.

Not good is it ! I dont like bog standard white bread either, I like wholemeal, barley,brown bread & seeds, pulses, honey etc inc in my bread, with real butter, spread thickly & cool where its just come out of the fridge !

I like Jewish bread, its shaped like a plait, is quite sweet and has poppy seeds on top. I also like Rye bread which is dark relatively hard and tangy.

Yes to all of that! Good bread should feel like a complete meal, especially with a little butter or cheese. Too much of ours is just something to spread peanutbutter on.... :facepalm:
