I was surprised to hear that Brazil was held to a 0-0 tie by Mexico, considering how the latter struggled during the CONCACAF qualifiers, but after seeing the Mexican goalie in action in the highlights I'm starting to understand.

Watching Russia v South Korea now. I thought that Russia had just gotten a goal on the set piece there, but the ball just hit the side of the net.

I was disappointed in the Brazil v Mexico game. Neither side found a rhythm.
And yeah the difference between them was the Mexico keeper. Good solid stand up shot stopper.

Korea are a tight unit though, very well organised and disciplined. I thought the greater physical presence of Russia might give them the edge but the Koreans play some tight passing and can hold possession.

Netherlands today. See if the aussies can do better than Spain did. And also see if Spain can bounce back. Think they may need a win today or will be going home come next week.

Good first half half in the Spain v Chile game.

The reign in Spain may be over. Interesting second half to come!

I am tempted to put some money on Spain to win this.

Chile haven't been great... Spain can't get any worse.

I think Spain can collapse again the way they are going- hats off to the Chile manager he has got his teams tactics spot on- they are sitting really high up the pitch, even when Spain have held the possession. And they havent pulled 11 behind the ball since they went ahead, they kept the high line- I like to see that and it got them a deserved second goal.

Well who would have thought it!  Shocked

But 6 minutes added time?  Suspect Mind you they could have given Spain another 45 minutes and they still wouldn't have scored.
Impressed by the way Chile played, looking forward to them against Holland now.  Nod

The only game I got to see live today was Japan v Greece, and only the second half of that.  It was a pretty sloppy/dirty game, especially on the Greek side.  The Japanese controlled the ball for most of the time but they just couldn't close the deal whenever they got a chance to score a goal.  The final score (0-0) was pretty much what both teams deserved.

On the matter of England (which I really wanted to see play, but couldn't due to work), I think their future depends on whether Italy or Costa Rica wins tomorrow.  I could be wrong, but as best as I can figure, if Costa Rica wins, then there will be no way for England to get enough points even if they win their final match.  But even then they'd still need help no matter what.
