I cant do all the other stuff. The entire trailer only the bit with Bilbo above the trees is like the book- and they still get the colour of the butterflies wrong.
Not one single other part of it is like the book, not in style or content. PJ!!!!

Read to the bottom to see Bandersnatch Cumberbums talking like Norc!

BTW, somebody mentioned liking the music. The music in the trailer is almost never the same as in the movie, usually added by some production studio.

UGH. they showed the dragon. Now we get to judge it. Looks like a raptor. No thrill in its reveal. It’s Gandalf the White’s reveal all over again
Re: TRAILER! IT IS HERE!! Desolation of Smaug - Trailer! ACTUALLY HERE!!! OMG!
They watched a different trailer from me cause the one I saw had some of the worst effects Ive seen in a modern film was full of actiony physics defying nonsense, clearly had little to do with the book its based on, oh and was complete shit start to finish.

The New 'Hobbit' Trailer Is Long on Orlando Bloom and Short on Dragon
By Esther Zuckerman | The Atlantic Wire – 1 hr 38 mins ago
In case the first one wasn't long enough for you, the second installment of Peter Jackson's unnecessarily stretched-out Hobbit trilogy is due out in December, and the trailer for The Desolation of Smaug is out today. Ultimately, this preview serves to prove just how much Jackson had to extend Tolkien's slight book to make a movie trilogy. For instance, we see a lot of Orlando Bloom's Legolas—who, you know, wasn't even in the text.
But you've got to wait until the very end of the trailer for the big reveal of what we're really all here to see: Smaug, the titular dragon, who is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. And, you know, we don't get to see that much. What we do get to see of the dragon? Yeah, it kind of reminds us of Shrek. So sue us.
But still! We're excited to see what Cumberbatch does since a) we believe he can probably do anything and b) he recently told Vulture: "It was publicized that I 'voice' Smaug, and I thought, Fucking hell. My voice, my motions—I worked my ass off to create that dragon!"

Re: TRAILER! IT IS HERE!! Desolation of Smaug - Trailer! ACTUALLY HERE!!! OMG!
First thing I noticed was, barrels falling with HEADS sticking out ? & no-one noticed ? No, they did & they are dancing across the trees, & Leggy ? "my what a deep voice youve got"...(yeah,my wimpy squeal in LOTRs didnt fool anyone!) Primed & ready Bilbo ? And wasnt that dog from Harry Potter ? That CANT be Beorn please ?! Bard could very well be Orlando with black hair, even sounds like him, much as he did in POTC. Same old fight sequence with the infamous close up arrow shot from Leggy,(been there, done it,got a stunt guy) And now we have "is it a plane? is it an man? NO! Its superTauriel!" Thorin being organised enough to chop an Orc (or whatever it was, I dont care anymore!) without falling out his barrel, Even Petty might be pressed to do that ?! Dragon eye didnt look even vaguely real, Head looks like a left over from Jurassic Park, going by head size the body would be to big to navigate the cavern ? And why is Bilbo still fooking visible at this point ? How the chuff is Bilbo gonna fool the dragon now PJ ?

Re: TRAILER! IT IS HERE!! Desolation of Smaug - Trailer! ACTUALLY HERE!!! OMG!
Great write-up as expected, Petty.
In the book Dale was quite near to the main gate of Erebor. I couldn't find an exact indication of how far it was from the Lake, but all of the maps in the books show depict the course of the River Running to the north end of the Long Lake as being at least as long as the Lake itself. PJ's location of Dale does not seem unreasonable to me. Keep in mind that it's location was largely determined by proximity to the Dwarven-kingdom, and that the original settlement of Esgaroth at the north end of the Lake would have met their maritime merchant needs.
Pettytyrant101 wrote:Dale I presume, not as I imagined it, but I dont mind it. Location seems a bit off but Ill need to check that- I thought it was moe on the shore at the mountains foot.

found your soul-mate petty
source: http://subtleandquicktoanger.tumblr.com/post/52726389793/the-desolation-of-smaug-trailer-was-really-quite
The Desolation Of Smaug trailer was really quite awful. Everything just looks so…fake. The overuse of CGI is so glaringly apparent and the exterior shots look so bright that I have to wonder how this trailer was approved for release. Those cannot be anywhere close to finished shots.
And why does Peter Jackson continue to view the Elves as superheroes capable of any kind of physical act he can think of. I have always found his portrayal of the Elves to be slightly problematic, but now it looks like he’s going overboard. Please keep this man as far away from any kind of Silmarillion adaptation as possible. And was I the only person who started to think of the infamous monkey swinging scene from Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull when we saw the shots of the Elves jumping through the trees? If your trailer starts to remind people of the lowest point of Indy 4 then you are not off to a good start. And I hope that Legolas doesn’t end up having any kind of substantial role. Orlando Bloom is simply not a good actor.
I’m just getting tired of Jackson’s interpretation of Middle-earth. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy was fantastic, but An Unexpected Journey was a disappointment and it looks like the sequels are heading the same way. I’m ready for a fresh take and new vision for the on-screen representation of this mythology that I love. Oh how I wish Guillermo Del Toro was still directing these Hobbit films.
Re: TRAILER! IT IS HERE!! Desolation of Smaug - Trailer! ACTUALLY HERE!!! OMG!
Not so sure about the soul mate, I think this: "The Lord Of The Rings trilogy was fantastic" is a deal breaker.

Re: TRAILER! IT IS HERE!! Desolation of Smaug - Trailer! ACTUALLY HERE!!! OMG!
On my view of the trailer I didn't even notice the lack of Bilbo because I was taken off guard by how totally different the focus of the trailer was. The whole thing is filled with action and the politics and war arrives much earlier in the story than it did in the book. It's all Elves and Dwarves and fantasy action and seems to have very little to do with the story of the book, or Bilbo, or the spirit of adventure and discovery. The one exception to this was the shot with the butterflies, which was great and captured the sense of wonder that The Hobbit expresses so perfectly.

i hav an import question
- Spoiler:
- in the book version of the hobit does legolas wear eyeliner 2?
