Just looked at the screenshots, and I realized that the CG elves are all ginger. Isn't that supposed to be rare? I thought only Feanor and one of his sons had red hair?

I can't say I'm blown away by Schmowg. I can (sort of) overlook him not being gold, but he just doesn't stand out that much compared to other movie dragons. Except in size, I guess, which is nice.

Hopefully the full, finished dragon will be more impressive. I don't think he'll make as much of an impression though considering he has to share villain status with so Azog and the Necromancer.

I really hope this isn't Beorn trying to eat the Dwarves.

i think the elves have redish/brown colour hair, better than them all being blonde idk, my elf lore isn't that good.

I wasn't sure about this, but a glance through The Shibboleth of Feanor reveals only a statement that red hair was very rare among the Eldar. However, the Silvan elves were not Eldar (never having made it to Beleriand), which I presume is the out that PJ (or more likely, Boyens) will claim. To be fair to them, I don't recall any statement about Silvan hair color.

Most of the Elves in Middle-earth (Noldor and Sindar, anyway) were dark haired. Blonde hair was also rare. It was characteristically a trait of the Vanyar, who remained in Valinor, but the House of Finarfin (whose mother was a Vanya) brought the bonde genes with them. Thranduil was noted as having blonde hair in The Hobbit, though.

well... do you have steep mountains in scotland, because that is by the mountain foot.

People live at the bottom of them, on the coast, in natural bays ect not part way up them. Part way up them you have transportation problems, paticularly in winter, no good for a trading town that. And if your main trade is via the water you are likely to build close to it not somehwere you have to lug all the merchandise up and down steep inclines.

the cgi must be bad if we can all spot it a mile off. I mean even a technological genius like me can spot it.
I think Beorn looks worse than Fluffy the three headed dog from Harry Potter like 10 years ago. he looks like the Luck Dragon from Neverending story, and that was in the 80s.
