But there was no outcry, no fuss! No pages of screeching and howling for blood. I think it's because AUJ was so bad we've thrown in the towel. Not like LoTR which had so much good stuff it was worth fighting over.

I feel like all the major changes have already been leaked. But they jumped the shark a long time ago, so I guess there really shouldn't be any more surprises. What other movie in recent memory have we known this much specific plot-detail about well before it was released? We basically know most of the film already, and I feel like I've already seen it.

So what don't we know?

-Whether or not Bombur will get a line of dialogue.
-Whether or not the White Council battle with the Necromancer will be in this film.
-Where the movie will specifically end.
-Specifics about Thrain and Dol Guldur/map and key.
-How much more Bilbo can be shoved into the corner and ignored.

That's really all I can think of (and only three were serious considerations).

I think they have to leak a lot so people who know the book are somewhat prepared- otherwise they may well be sitting half way through the film scratching their heads asking 'whats this an adaptation of again?'

Have you read GB's fanfic The Adventures of Bilbo and Itaril, Figg? My money's on Bilbo (that is really a terrific piece of fan fiction, by the way, highly recommended)

I think the 'au' is 'ow' as in cow. Like S'au'ron is sowron and not souron. I think?

This is basically my mindset as of now. I'm too let down to get as worked up now. I'm left wondering what they won't drastically alter and thinking like that makes all the changes they're making now seem expected: not justifiable mind you, but unsurprising (he'll find a way) and just disappointing. I also see that I'm not alone and hope that these prequels will be forgotten about, maybe resulting a reboot. A good one!
