Martin Freeman's last day of shooting.
- big image:
Peter Jackson wrote:Tonight Martin Freeman finished his last shot as Bilbo Baggins. The end of an incredible two and a half years. I cannot imagine anyone else in this role - a character that Martin has nurtured and crafted with love and great skill.
We have said goodbye to our elves, humans, wizards and now the hobbit. We now enter our final 2 weeks of pick-ups, and it's wall to wall dwarves. These pick-ups have been gruelling and intense, but I'm so happy with what we've been shooting. These next two movies are going to be pretty great!
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Why dont I feel comfortable with that ? Im getting a "twing".

Because bilbo is the main character and he's done a long time before everyone else? And by everyone else I mean dwarves. And by dwarves I mean Thorin

Tin was right but, I THOUGHT I felt a "reading between the lines" moment when PJ said about "wall to wall Dwarves" ?

Maybe the clothes will look better on camera, you know, once they've been cg'd.

All "Bilbo" needs is Captain Hook's big flouncy hat to look like he's taken a break from "Peter Pan"..........plus the hook........& the ticking clock...........& the crocodile.......Im sure PJ will think of something......

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Bilbo would NEVER wear a ratty bathrobe and call it every day wear and certainly never wear it as a bathrobe. UGLY, OH BILBO, I AM SO ASHAMED FOR YOU.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I'm pretty sure the coat/bathrobe thing is supposed to be given to Bilbo by the people of Lake-town after the Company arrives there, so it's probably some sort of hand-me-down. I doubt that mucking around in a dragon's lair does much to keep clothes looking nice, either.

I doubt this is accidental-I am guessing clothing wise Lake Town will have a nautical theme, despite it being on a Lake, not the bloody sea.

I think the state of the coat might signify more about lake Town that seems to fit what we have seen and heard about it so far- that's its basically scum, threadbare, Dickensian in many ways. No doubt apart from the Master and his cronies who will have all the riches.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
That does seem to be the look that PJ is going for. It may be more bleak than the book's depiction (it's been a long time since I've read that part), but I don't think it's an unreasonable way to visually depict the decline and impoverishment of the people of Long Lake since Smaug's arrival. I'll be curious to see if the films reflect the generation gap between those who still remember/care about Smaug and those who don't, though.

it's the new clothes from Dale, not the one he had from hobbiton, so it's not "hobbit wear" therefor they look... not bilbo-ish.
