Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
everyone saying goodbye on the hobbit set. this is the best one yet.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
That was kinda cute.
I didn't know until today that the second round of shooting was ending now. I guess with less than six months left PJ needs to move on to post-production. I wonder if they'll do any pick-ups next year. I seem to recall them implying that they wouldn't.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Just you wait - one week before the premiere of the last film they'll feel a sudden urge to include Azog's long lost son in the Battle of Five Armies, Gandalf and Galadriel's wedding and the replacement of Beorn by Luke Skywalker, something which of course means they'll have to return for a couple of days of shooting

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
well.. this is actually the perfect goodbye Orlando/Legolas song.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Loved it Norc ! I wish they could have had Legolas himself skipping about instead of that girl tho,

I hadn't seen that before. It's a funny song, but the title pun makes it even better.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Live thoughts while watching the vlog:
I can respect PJ's reasons for not sending anything to Comic-Con, but this sounds a little more intensive than just pick-up shooting. It makes me wonder how much of the second or third films was planned out before the decision to make it a trilogy.
Radagast: "If what you say is true ... the Shaolin and the Wu-Tang could be dangerous."
Dave the Punk
It's great seeing all the crew again, they're extremely talented and I love the behind-the-scenes look. Hopefully there'll be more of them in the EE documentaries.
Bard confronts the Dwarves when they wash up on the riverbank in their barrels and threatens them with his bow.
PJ is developing into a master troll, and the Radagast poo section is further evidence of that.
Tauriel shows up in Dale during scenes set during both summer and winter...? Not only does that mean her role is bigger than I'd hoped, but why are Elves going to Dale that much in the first place? Perhaps the summer scene is a flashback to pre-Smaugian times.
I'm not sure if the apparent Tauriel/Legolas romance is better or worse than the rumored Tauriel/Kili one. They're laying it on thick with the music and the fake horse, though.
Nothing against the actor playing Bard's son (he seems like a cool enough kid), but ... why? Also, is Bard supposed to have been 14 when he became a father?

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I definitely prefer Tauriel/Legolas over Tauriel/Fili I hope there will be none, however Lake Town looks cool, and there are dwarves in spider webs, so there's hope I guess (even though I found myself saying "I hope Petty can edit that one out" more than once) Thanks for posting, Eldo!

Never change, guys.

This forum has gone through anti-Jackson periods before. The aftermath of the CinemaCon fiasco last spring was, I think, the first time that a majority of people on the forum were actively anti-Jackson. Of course, a lot of those people reported back that they liked The Hobbit until the pendulum began to swing the other way again. I'm pretty sure that DOS will receive more positive reviews here than this thread might suggest.
That said, I do think that The Hobbit is a step down from LOTR (as was King Kong), and I don't think it will be remembered anywhere near as fondly as LOTR is in, say, 5-10 years.
Never change, guys.

I'm just giving you guys a hard time. Your purist credentials are noted though, Ringdrotten!
It is a fun vlog, I totally agree about that.
