Magic black arrows of Girion? What? Evil or Very Mad

white gems? Thats got to be similarils- how they brining those into it? And wont PJ be sued?

Don't think white gems will be silmarils. Wouldn't put it passed him though.

Guessing we wont be seeing a gem encrusted Smaug then... just a super tough dragon of steel and a man with kryptonite arrows.

Damn @ the "white gems" comment. Either PJ is just trolling folks or he's going to be even more in your face about flaunting the copyright rules. That said, Silmarils are mentioned very briefly in the Appendices, so that'll probably be his excuse if he mentions them in the films. Even if it's obvious that he's taking from stories only mentioned in The Silmarillion.

That's all just conjecture at this point, though.

The white gems thing; basically in the book it just says that Thranduil likes white and green gems and he has them decorating his crown and his palace in various places. Don't worry, I don't think PJ is THAT stupid. He might be referencing the Arkenstone, but I highly doubt it.

I really need to pick up The Hobbit again. I tried to re-read it before AUJ came out but I was in the middle of finals and only got like a chapter or two in before I stopped.

I re-read the Mirkwood bit recently when I was bored one day, and I specifically remember thinking that there would be no way PJ would put Thranduil's gem loving in the movies. But for once I'm kind of glad that I'm wrong!

Dont be glad to soo Tin- this is PJ- who knows how he will use such an idea beryond the fact it will be a basterised version of whatever is in the book- same as everything else in his films.
