Did some quick digging- put in spoilers as its a review of the book the film is based on-

Spoiler:

Couple things concern me- that the tone seems markedly different from Conan Doyle and the bit- 'Holmes begins to develop a close relationship with a young man'- what do they mean by close I wonder in this context, and does that have anything to do with casting Sir Ian in the role?

Just found this in a reader review- 'In this novel, Sherlock Holmes is not the objective and decisive detective we expect, but rather an aging man filled with regret at missed opportunities, particularly lost romance.' Evil or Very Mad

Sherlock - BBC [2] - Page 38 Empty Re: Sherlock - BBC [2]

Post by Pettytyrant101 Fri Sep 20, 2013 1:41 pm

Andrea Plunket claims that not only does she own the characters created by Arthur Conan Doyle but also plans to start legal proceedings to prevent the BBC making any more episodes of its successful Sherlock franchise.
But Mrs Plunket is throwing down a legal gauntlet to the BBC.
She insists she retains the copyright to the last ten stories from the Conan Doyle oeuvre in the U.S. More crucially, she claims to have registered as her trademark all the leading characters in the Sherlock Holmes stories and accuses the BBC of breaching her trademark.
‘No one has asked permission to use my trademarks and I am confident that if and when I go to court I will be able to prevent the BBC making any more Sherlocks,’ she tells me from her home in New York. ‘That is my wish.’
‘I love Guy Ritchie,’ Mrs Plunket tells me. ‘But I am not enamoured of the BBC. No one has made any approach to me and they have no right to use my trademarks.
‘In the absence of negotiation, I will be forced to go to court to prevent any more Sherlocks being made or appearing in the U.S.’
A BBC source said last night that  there were no copyright problems with Sherlock in Britain, adding: ‘Mrs Plunket’s contentions will be looked at.’

Did a bit of digging- and there a ot to dig on this woman- but mad old bitter homophobic woman with no real claim seems quite near the top of my assessment-

"the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Literary Estate" represents Andrea Plunket, the former wife of Sheldon Reynolds, producer of the 1954 television series starring Ronald Howard as Holmes. Reynolds controlled the copyrights in the 1950s. Plunket is proprietor of a guest house in Livingston Manor, New York. Her claims to rights in the Sherlock Holmes stories have been repeatedly rejected in U.S. federal court decisions (including Plunket v. Doyle, No. 99-11006, Southern District of New York, February 22, 2001; Pannonia Farms Inc. v. ReMax International and Jon Lellenberg, No. 01-1697, District of Columbia, March 21, 2005). She has also filed a claim to the name "Sherlock Holmes" as a United States trademark, and that too has been turned down."- Sherlockian.net
