I cant remember where it came up in conversation recently (possibly when we were talking about Noah) but someone mentioned Robin of Sherwood and Ray Winstones part in it as Will Scarlett.
Whilst going through my uploads on dailymotion I noticed a scene I uploaded from the opening episode introducing the character of Will for the first time was still there, so here it is, in my view the best portrayal of the usually musical, overly cheery Will Scarlett-

Also its amazing what they got away with for a kids show early on a Saturday evening. You wouldnt get it on at that time now without cuts.

Though it might be good to know that the premise is two comedians playing fictionalized versions of themselves. And the program is as much about the comedy as the food.

The link I posted seems to be still working.  Smile

I want to preface this by first stating that I am enjoying the Fargo TV series.

But...

There have been several times over the past two episodes where I have felt like the intelligence of the audience is not being considered. There have been several unnecessary flashbacks to show what a character is thinking about. I feel that they are unnecessary because: 1. The characters thoughts can be inferred based on the circumstances or surroundings. 2. Some quieter moments would be powerful without the flashbacks covering the music, or interrupting the flow of a shot/sequence.

I don't want to get into too many details if anyone is interested in watching the show and wants to find out for themselves, I just had to get this out in writing.

Happy 80th Birthday Alan Bennett- one of my favourite playwrights and arguably the best living British writer.

His writing accomplishments are too long to list so here is is his wiki page-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Bennet

And a scene from one of the Talking Heads series (I had to upload it myself from a BBC4 documentary as amazingly I could not find it anywhere else).
In less than three minutes this moves me to tears every time, the perfect blending of words and performance.
Making one of her last television appearances, for which she rightly won a BAFTA, and proving that we discard and undervalue our elderly in the media all too readily when they are capable of performances such as this, Thora Hird in 'Waiting on the Telegram"

Benedict Cumberbatch visited the Telegraph garden with his mother, Wanda, and pronounced it "absolutely beautiful". The Sherlock actor, dressed in a peculiarly small hat, was reluctant to discuss his own horticultural skills. Happily, his mum was more forthcoming, disclosing that the family have "a roof garden and a garden and a balcony" to keep them busy.

Netflix have announced they are making a new 20 epiosde series The Crown, charting the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Now normally the thought of an American based production company making such a show would fill with me with horror given past examples, like the Diana mini series, but I actually like the sound of this for three reasons.

Firstly the premise-

'(It)will chart Queen Elizabeth II's reign from the moment she succeeded her father George VI, at the age of 26, to the present day.
It is understood the script will focus as much on the changing political landscape as the Queen herself.'

Secondly the writer, Peter Morgan, who wrote the scripts for Frost/Nixon and the Damned United.

And thirdly Stephen Daldry the director, he directed The Reader, The Hours, and Billy Elliot.

I think those are two good people to work together, one with a track record on writing films based on real events, and a director who makes films with strong narratives and emotional centres.

Fingers crossed for a Sex Pistols cameo once they reach the late '70s.

I don't really know enough about Liz 2.0's reign to say if there's enough interesting material for 20 episodes, but I've been pretty pleased with Netflix's recent output so I'll likely give it a watch. Nod

More than enough considering how long she has been on the throne-

Her father become King when the King abdicated over an affair with an American, Wallis Simpson.
She remained with the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace throughout the London Blitz.
And learned mechanics as part of the war effort.

Her choice of husband was controversial too, a Prince with nothing but the title really, and a foreigner too boot, the press had a field day.

As head of the Commonwealth she has been involved with the leaders of some of the worlds biggest historic events- like Suez, and in many commentators eyes she is the main reason the Commonwealth still exists.
Of course as Queen she has also had weekly meeting with every British PM since Churchill.
And as she has been on the throne so long her association with US Presidents goes back to Truman.

Then there is all the Diana stuff of course.

But in her time on the throne she has seem a complete revolution in culture and world events, and she is been involved in a surprising amount of them.

I think the problem will not be finding enough stuff to write about, but what to leave out.

The news story I read said that the series would begin when Elizabeth took the throne, which came after the Edward VIII, World War II, or her marriage. It may have been mistaken, though.

I'll admit I don't really know the extent of her involvement in stuff like Suez or the Falklands. I'm sure there's plenty of interesting family drama as well but I hope there's considerably more to the series than just that.

I think this gives a decent overview of her role regards the Commonwealth, which if they are going to cover political events in her lifetime they would have to include-

He strength lies in the fact people trust her and tell her things they dont tell to others, even in their own government often. She seems to be an expert mediator.

Just finished the last (4th) season of Eastbound & Down, has anyone else here watched this show? It's been one of my favourite comedy shows since the first season :DIt's about this former baseball player, Kenny Powers, who's struggling with adapting to life as someone "ordinary" after his career is ended. Powers is played by Danny McBride, and he nails the role. You're spared the horrible audience laughs of sitcoms, and, well, it's just hilarious. The seasons consist of only eight episodes (each episode runs for about 30 mins), well worth a watch Very Happy

I thought that was a movie!
I may just have to give it a look then. I've enjoyed Danny McBrides characters over the years.
(To be fair, he always plays the same character, but in a Will Ferrell type-way some of his work is quite enjoyable).

I've not seen him in anything else, but he's great in this role Smile With only eight episodes per season (and only four seasons) the show's not that hard to get into either. The show doesn't get repetitive (at least I didn't think it did), but if you don't like the first season it's probably not your kind of show. Give it a go if you can find the time/will for it, and see if you like it Smile
