The History Channel is a joke. They've been thriving on "Ancient Aliens" and conspiracy theories for the past decade or so. Before that they were the Hitler Channel (all about WWII). I haven't actually seen their Bible series, but there was a controversy because their Satan looked like Obama.

I noticed in the bible series jesus is played by a white man. How come jesus is always played by white men ?Most middle easterns are very dark in colour. Obviously white religious people don't like the idea of jesus being a non white. Means his dad (god) aint white either.

And god said to mosses, give me 5 bro.

Just watched an interesting BBC documentary (part 3 actually) called The United States of Television: Independent women.
One of the things I found interesting is Sex and the City and Desperate Houswives both get quite a bit of screentime as leading examples of modern female portrayals on TV at the turn of the millenium- and both were created and written by men.
The creator of Sex and the City also said that if he had written a show about a bunch of guys talking of women in the same manner, and portrayed women on the show as he did men (delibretly objectifying them, not giving them real names, minimum dialogue) it would never have been made.
Does raise the question then, why was it acceptable because it was women?

Excellent documentary in general though worth a watch if you get the chance.

Does raise the question then, why was it acceptable because it was women?

The simple answer is that the 20th century feminist movement was so successful largely because they built an active, well organized political machine which still exists. Good for them!

Among other things there are people now who vet shows as they come out not for general evenhandedness, but only on core feminist issues. These shows arguably don't show women as a group in a bad light, so they get a pass. It's as simple as that.

Men have never needed such a political machine in the past, so there's no equivalent male lobby now to object to such things. And it's certainly not the women's job, is it?

I cant decide if its comforting or saddening that women, put in the same sort of positions as men, seem to act just a badly!

Watching the BBC's adptation of the Alan Clarke Diaries, with John Hurt as Alan Clarke, on youtube- all six episodes are there.
A fascinating portrayal of that time in UK politics as well as it being suprisingly hard to dislike the man, even though he is vain, arrogant, sexist, self-opinionated and conceited.
His diaries are certainly entertaingly honest sounding.

American Shows: ok we're going to show you this pilot... oh ok you like the pilot? That's good, have 20 more episodes. And a subsequent 9 seasons. And the transcripts and deleted scenes and plenty of interviews with the cast. Oh also here's the gag reel, enjoy!
British Shows: Here's four episodes you fuckers, come back in two years and we might have some more done if we can be arsed. If you're lucky.

You dont have to pay a licence Azriel- I dont. Simply get rid of any aerials- set top boxes ect and then watch everything on iplayer- you cant watch stuff live but thats not a big hardship for saving the licnce fee of what 140 quid or something now. (Oh and you have to register withthe BBC that you dont need a licence or they keep sending you threatening letters!)
Anything else you want to see use a site like project free tv (where I get the Who episode links from for Mrs Figg)

What, huh??!! Gordon Ramsay's in Cafe Hon?!!! I used to live a 10 minute walk from there. It was considered a gem of the neighborhood. And now it's considered a kitchen nightmare? Things have deteriorated sadly since I left. Things always do so when I leave, I've developed something of a complex about it. I promise I shan't be leaving Earth any time soon, or you'll all be descending far below the line of mediocrity, I'm afraid.

There was sort of a city-wide boycott of the restaurant because the lady who owned it trademarked the word "hon" and started suing people left and right if they tried to use it. The restaurant kinda went into a tailspin after that because of her ego, but Gordon Ramsay saved the day by convincing her to give up the trademark and not be such a bitch to her staff.

I actually heard about the giving up the trademark on the news when it happened, but didn't know it had anything to do with Gordon Ramsay until the other night. Laughing

Dug it up and watched it. Seen a few of the kitchen nightmares before, but until you see a place you know it all seems like the same plot. this time I was glued to the screen. So much fun.
