{{{Here you go Figg, but I'm afraid it doesn't look like a match to me, there is a part of a top of a plant that goes of the edge on the right side of the first painting, and the rest of should therefore be on the second one, but isn't. The trees are different types, one fruit bearing the other not and with slightly different trunk and branch patterns, and most notably there is no sand or water at the bottom on the right hand picture. Was most definitely worth taking a punt on though}}}

Maybe ? just maybe ? there was a 3rd painting ? It might be a hidden mystery ? Be exciting if a 3rd did turn up connecting these 2

yeah there may have been a third painting I guess, but its strange because in both paintings Flora is standing next to Venus and Mercury with his stick is stirring up the winds that you see in the Birth of Venus, if you read it from right to left.

ok I did a DIY version and I noticed a few things, firstly it looks like the end of a grove of trees at the end of a land mass, the line of ground is consistent until you get to the male figure of mercury with his stick, but its got to be lighter because you wouldn't be able to see his figure against a dark background so the land has been removed in that section only, other than that it looks like an unbroken line of bushes. secondly at either end there are Winds blowing on Venus/Flora. so in both pictures its, Winds, Flora, Venus, anfd in the middle the 3 graces. people always said the Primavera is lopsided, with the central character of Venus not being dead centre but slightly to the right, which many people wondered over. because in theory she should be in the centre of the painting, this way my idea means that Mercury becomes the centre of the painting, being the dominant male figure representing action and maybe the Medici family probably Lorenzo de Medici who the picture was painted for. The laurel tree in the background is symbolic for his name.

For me the clue that there might be a 3rd painting is, each pic has a woman in a floral dress. In Venus there is a lady with blue flowers on her dress & in Primavera there is a lady with pink, so, a 3rd would have which colour ?? ( dont say grey )

Either side of each painting has a couple being carried in flight, the more you look you think that the meat is missing from this sandwich.

The woman in pink flowers is Chloris & she is being carried away by God of the west wind, ( Prima) But I believe she is with the West Wind God in the Venus pic ?? And yes, Venus is a bit lopsided, which seems odd if she's the focal point.

{{I'm not qualified to comment on your theory Figg, though from what knowledge I do have n the matter it sounds a good theory to me.
But looking more a s layman and amateur artist some questions would arise if they are one painting- why does the line of the beach and sand along the bottom of the left hand picture not continue in the right? Also why do the flowers on the grass only appear in the right had a painting whilst the grass in the other is bare? why are the trees seemingly two different species with the leaf structure painted differently in each picture and the right being flower bearing ones when if one painting they would be the same grove?
And regarding the scaling of the paintings- are the two real paintings the same heights? Do they physically match up in the real world? }}}

You are more knowledgeable than me Figgy but, is it significant that Flora is hitching up her dress to show the emblem of the pink flowers ?? She wants us to see them ?

This is interestingly exciting

They are standing on cliffs ! in Venus She is coming ashore in a shell so we see her from a higher top, a cliff

Is that laurel leaves around the womans neck in Venus ? is she waving a shawl as a signal & the laurel indicates peace ??
