Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey' - Page 11 Empty Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'

I actually thought the violence in the film was not appropriate myself- in the purist rough edit I cut a lot of violence. I got rid of Gollum fighting the goblin (put retained the isalnd shot with the goblin as its distant enough and sets up the physical threat)- I also kept the line about Thrains beheading but left out the accompanying visual.
You know given Pj claims to be a Doctor Who fan you would think he might have learnt how to do horror for children- and its NOT in the showing of it. Mad

I didn't much care for the Bilbo-goblin fight, but the Gollum-goblin struggle was okay by me. Scare the kids? Good! Nod

Scare is fine. Kids should be scared behind sofas, its good for 'em! But showing decapitation and holding up the head like a scene from 300- in TH?
Didnt seem appropriate to me for something based on a book aimed at 7year olds and up.

lol, i thought the violience fitting, especially with gollum and the gobliln-
also, i really liked when sting stopped shining blue. showing the goblin was dead and that gollum was no goblin.

The main reason for cutting the first part of the Gollum/Goblin bit was purist rather than violence, so as Bilbo finds the Ring more like he does in the book and the viewer can, as in the book, piece it together and reach the same conclusion Gollum does- showing it coming from Gollum right at the start ruins that.

But the head bit I cut because it seemed gratutious to me- having Balin tell you he is beheaded is enough-you dont need to see it.

That sums it up for me too. And that is why I have such high hopes for Petty's edit Very Happy

Try opening the link in a new tab in your browser.
The Skydrive page can be a slow loading site at times, lots of protocols and security crap.

See if that works- there is no reason you shouldnt be abe to at least get onto the skydrive if you can access other sites.

Mmm- shouldnt have done that Mad - I set it to allow signing in without you having to be logged into hotmail or live.
If you have a hotmail or live account sign into it first and that should sort the password problem out. If not let me know I will resend the link hopefully without a password this time.
