i think its unfair that academics are writing articles for thn, how are bloggers supposed to replicate this flair for words and critical analysis

I stopped following THM on Facebook just the other day because I couldn't handle the barrage of shit they were spamming at my newsfeed. I had been a "fan" since back when Ady ran the site.

Are you downloading a folder or the individual files inside?- might be best to download the files individually rather than all at once if youre not already.
Otherwise yeah just send a mem stick.

download the individual files. Then you have to find something to unrar them. I use a unix utility by petty has found some OS X versions - search online.

Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey' - Page 33 Empty Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'

Post by Eldorion Wed May 15, 2013 8:55 pm

I don't speak any languages other than English (and a very little bit of German and even less Italian) but every now and then I visit Tolkien forums in other languages just to see what they're like. Today I was poking around a newish French Tolkien forum and I came across a review of The Hobbit that amused me. I only have the Google Translation, so while it appears that the guy writes under the pen name "Hateful Bastard", Google gave his name as "Heinous Asshole".

http://odieuxconnard.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/le-hobbit-un-spoiler-inattendu/

To begin with he gives a call to Peter Jackson's office asking if he can use copyrighted images in his review.

The secretary chuckled while dialing, before engaging speaker. There were a few nervous coughs before finally someone answers.

"Hello?
- Peter Jackson? Here Mr. Asshole, the Spoiler Corp.. Listen, we would bâcher your movie, there Bilbo, because, well, it's still a bit of a scandal. You could spin us the rights to use your images? It would help us much.
- What? Fuck no!
- Come on Peter, a little effort. The spirit of Christmas, all that sharing, huh? We do not know it at the big bearded geeks?
- Listen you cocksucker, I'm not gonna give you a single picture for your shitty spoil.
- Oh no, because I usually use at least images, even if I do not videos.
- Then fuck you. "

Even reading this through the filter of Google I could tell I'd discovered a kindred spirit of Petty and had to keep reading. Very Happy For "copyright issues" the whole post is illustrated with more GIFs than your average Norc post about Cumberbatch. Here's an example (rehosted for bandwidth reasons) depicting Gandalf's mark on Bilbo's door:

Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey' - Page 33 KrLBO9k

Bilbo has now, in addition to a magician, 13 dwarf home. Let me list them:

  • Thorin
  • Balin
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Jean-Jacques
  • Fat-Jean-Jacques

It goes on like that for a while and I encourage everyone to read it, even (especially) if you don't know a single word of French.
