Well, wasnt he an enthusiastic guy ! Quite positive ! Even if I may not agree with all he said,it was infreshing to hear him be so optimistic about the film ! Il be happy to go back & relook at my opinion based on his outlook, but my Idea on The Hobbit by PJ wont be swayed by much !

Don't know if I posted this before or not.
I thought 11:50's or so summed up the problem with Jackson's take on Middle Earth.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
Yeah generally agree with a lot they say about Jackson here.
Particularly that there is no need to watch his films as you can already picture in yur head exactly what he is going to do with the material before you see it- he is so predictable and dull- the complete opposite of Tolkiens rule defying writing style.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
I couldnt disagree more. LOTR was better than my imagination by a long way. I thought it brought Middle Earth to life, it was stunningly beautiful. It was brilliant and artistically the most imaginative film I ever saw.
However I was very disappointed with TH, the way it looks is tired and stale. something went badly wrong, and its a shame.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
I dont see much difference between them- particularly not between TT, RotK and TH- yes TH is worse, but its worse for the same reasons- just more of it.
All my complaints about TH- lack of Tolkien, stupid diversions, alterations to character and plot, bad scriptwriting, over reliance on spectacle over substance, lack of realism or physics ect- are all present in his LotR's films too.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
I dont see how not- I have been complaining about all those things since long before there was a TH movie- and the complaints I have been making you are now making about TH- so from my point of view no there isnt much difference between them except you can now see those problems more clearly in TH- but they are all present in LotR's- if they werent I couldnt have been compaining about them for years before hand.
I grant they are more obvious and more to the forefront in TH but the problems are just the same.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
As long as we can all agree that AUJ is the worst of PJ's Middle-earth films (so far) we have some common ground to stand on.
Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
So far, yes. Still got two more to go!

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'

Well.....
lack of Tolkien
LotR's and TH prefer PJ invented dialogue over Tolkien. Both films modernise the dialogue (badly) or just completely invent it.
stupid diversions
LotR's- Faramir taking Frodo and Sam to Osgiliath, Frodo sending Sam away and choosing Gollum over him ect.
TH- Azog, Radagast, WC, most of the film in fact.
bad scriptwriting
LotR's- ending of TT is a mess with a poor fabricated Frodo/Sam ending to make up for ending the film half way through the book and is upbeat instead of the books cliffhanger. Anachranistic dialogue- 'nervous system', 'why doesnt that suprise me'. Screws up the books themes, misses out the entire hugely important ending ruiing the stoy arc of all four hobbits in one fell swoop.
TH-any bit of TH after Bag End counts as bad scripting in my book, I dont know where to begin.
Over reliance on spectacle
LotR's- troll fight, every battle, Denethor running about on fire, Mumakil charge ect
TH- bunny sled chase, fight with trolls, everything in the goblin tunnels.
lack of realism or physics
Lotr's- Merry and Pippin chucked about by troll onto stone floors and just bouncing, collapsing staircase, anything Legolas does, Denenthor running a mile on fire, Gondor being one city with no land, farms or outlying regions ect.
TH- troll fight, bunny sled chase, goblin town- everyone should be dead a hundred times over.
See- same problems both films with examples from each. Its just less well disguised in TH but its the same PJ tendencies ruining both in terms of adapations of Tolkiens work.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
well seeing as I totally dont agree with your accessement of LOTR, I dont agree with what you are saying. I do not agree with any of your critisisms of LOTR, and my critisisms of AUJ are not the same as yours about LOTR.
Not one of those points above are relevent to LOTR. There was great script writing and spectacle when needed. it was totally realistic to boot.
LOTR was 100% Tolkien

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
So you think Pj doesnt make up or modernise all the dialogue?
You dont think Denthor running half a mile on fire is impossible?
Or that a troll can chuck hobbits about without harming them at all?
You think Gondor beng one city with no agricultural lands or any other towns is realistic?
You cant see Faramir being completely changed and twenty minutes of made up stuff as being a diversion from Tolkien?
What of my points are you disagreeing with?
These things all happen in the films and ft the catgores I have listed as well as fitting with things you have complained about in TH.

This isnt a quetion of whether you liked them or not- thats not relevant to the question.
The point is the same problems afflicting Th are demonstrably by example present in LotR's. To a lesser extent, but they are still obviously there.
