Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
I'm waiting in line to see it right now!!!! From all of the reviews I've read, all I've heard is that it's a slow beginning and that the effects actually look like they're unfinished, particularly in 48. Question though, when it says hfr, does that mean its 48 fps? Because I really hope not!

I assumed that was mandatory David.
I mean who would risk seeing a PJ film sober?

Best wishes, Tin. Norc has given me hope that your whole hitherto fairly balanced outlook on life won't be blasted to pessimism by this experience, but she didn't see it in HFR.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
Yeah, HFR is the new marketing term for 48fps (and 60fps, I guess, if anyone ever gets around to making a feature film in that format).
I'm jealous that you get to go to the midnight release, Tin! I hope you enjoy it. I still have about 22 hours -- and a final in the morning -- left myself.

Why didn't GandaLF trick the trolls?
Why did Bilbo try and save Thorin?
But I though that the Gandalf Galadriel scene was so swwwet
They r my new ship
i thought they gave the tricking part to someone els, and that it acutally was a good thing. With Gandalf being everywhere, it was nice for someone els to shine (look no spoilers!)
- Spoiler:
- Also, i kinda liked that bit.. Bilbo saving Thorin it was a nice ending to it. Gave it a bit more meaning.
I don't ship Galadriel and Gandalf, but I thought the scene was nice, and not intirely out of place. the movie needed some fem-power. god. can't believe I just said that
FILI AND KILI! OMG! they broke my hear when they crossed the mountain and then suddenly they were split... omg.. D:
- Spoiler:
- and Ori (right? the cute, polite teenager who doesn't like vegetables) he was ADORABLE!

Eldorion wrote:I'm not surprised by that part. Ever since the first trailer last December it seemed pretty clear that Gandalf was going to use magic of some sort instead of trickery.
I still haven't seen the film though so I don't know how it plays out for sure. 24 MORE HOURS!
oh just wait and see ^^ he uses more cool magic than in Lotr... but... yeah, you'll see. I am only saing I was right all along when I first pointed out the troll scene in the trailer

the whole movie is doomed to be slow throughout if you cut it up into three parts. I can agree, but I don't mind, cus it's so enjoable. The humour and tolkieness and being back in ME
the thing about 48 and sets and all, it looks unfinished because it looks like your staring at a movie set, I am strongly recomending no reading of reviews until you acutally see the movie and see it in normal 24 so you don't get a shock and get totally distracted from the movie. Though hfr.. high frame, it seems your seeing it in 48.

Thats not an excuse Eldo! When the hell did students start treating their education seriously?! You'll never get a dead end job at this rate.
ps my Hobbit party has increased to 4 for tomorrow night, possibly 5- I am rather getting the impression people are only coming along to see if I physically explode, rather than for the film,!

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
I can't say I blame them.
Only about eight more hours for me, btw. Really looking forward to it. I hope it's enough time to bounce back from reading really shitty news though (see BBS forum).

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
There is only one cinema in the WHOLE of Tuscany showing 48fps thats really rubbish. Not even Warner Bros cinemas are doing it in 48, luckily though its not too far.

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
When I get the chance, I'll right a full review, but one thing that sucked was that I went to see it in IMAX 3D, but the projector wasn't working, so usage it in 2D. Three short things; way too much (bad) CGI, it looked lazily done, and, a positive, the acting was perfect. Bilbo made the movie! I'll say more when I have more than 2 hours of sleep and am not running all over the place!!

Re: Critics review 'An Unexpected Journey'
Ok so I'm on my phone coming back from a game right now (we won and I'm still alive!) so I'll say bits and peices.
SPOILERS AHEAD
A ton of the original dialogue is in the beginning, even the story about the invention of golf! Also said out of the frying pan and into the fire. Bilbo was a bit over excessive with his gestures, and after a while was a little distracting. Fili and kili were my favorite! Trying to make Thorin an Aragorn character. The anduril was riding a frickin moose. Almost threw my unused glasses at the screen. Gollum crying over losing the ring almost made me cry!
More later!

Oh my god, you went to a game Tin? When we've been all hanging out for a review from you? SHAME!
OMG invention of golf? YAAAAAAY
Don't say it was a moose around Norc - she's very particular about her moose/elk differentiation ;-)
