I liked his voice in the original trilogy, very menacing. Then Lucas ruined it.

Re: Star Wars
Boba Fett is the Darth Maul of the original trilogy. Awesome design, generally badass demeanor, but barely does anything and dies like a buster.
Agreed with bungo; I hope that the new film doesn't give Boba a New Zealand accent, but they probably will since his backstory from Attack of the Clones is still canon.

I mean, the Red Wedding reaction videos were funny, but if it's just someone going "ooh wow I liked that" then I don't understand the appeal. But then again I don't really watch reaction videos in general.
Re: Star Wars
For viewers it probably has something to do with living vicariously or something about shared experiences. For the creator of the video it has to be something about garnering attention or acting. People act up and do things they wouldn't normally do when they're in front of a camera.

Re: Star Wars
Someone posted some leaked Episode VII stunt footage on youtube, no spoilers, but it was very reassuring to see a big practical set and zip wires rather than greenscreen and clunky 3d cameras...

Re: Star Wars
If anyone fancies lowering their expectations for Episode VII, this rumoured plot synopsis may do the trick:
Alot of this sounds like random guesswork or fabrication, but a few of these details certainly seem credible, the whole
The more I read/think about the direction Abrams seems to be taking things in the more worried I become, nostalgia and pandering to the fans may make for a more 'true' or fun Star Wars film, but for all their flaws at least the prequels expanded the universe and did something different, waiting three decades for the sequel only to be met with a blockbuster rehash could be a bigger disappointment...

I hope its not a retro looking film for the sake of nostalgia. I would prefer it not to be a selfconscious homage to the originals.

Re: Star Wars
I'm really curious about what's worrying you, Malick, but I've managed to avoid plot details so far and I kinda want to go in mostly blind (not something I usually bother doing but this isn't your typical film for me). I was pretty pessimistic about the new films when they were first announced and the result of Star Trek Into Darkness didn't help at all, but the trailers so far have been really good. Of course, Episode I also had a dope trailer (if you can watch it at this point without knowledge of the finished film seeping through), so who knows. But I think I'd rather not go in expecting any bad specifics. Though that could always backfire.
Re: Star Wars
These are similar to the spoilers that I had read earlier, but I avoided reading that detailed synopsis. What I don't understand is what is with some people and having to know every detail going in to the movie? No offense if that's you, Malick, but I just don't understand wanting to know every detail of the plot, and then posting it on the internet. I didn't know anything going in to see Mad Max and I had a lot of fun. This takes away all the fun.

Fair point, I stumbled across a few of the spoilers by accident, and curiosity got the better of me from there, I don't normally bother looking into film spoilers, but I'm also quite weak willed when it comes to waiting for them, I suppose as I'm actually rather looking forward to EP 7 (unlike say, Jurrasic World-haven't even watched the trailer) I'm more worried it will disappoint me- look at The Hobbit, I was very very excited when it was first announced but the closer we got to release with the trailers magazine articles etc the less interested I got, at least when AUJ came out I was forewarned to some of the changes-if I hadn't known about Azog, Radagast, the CGI etc beforehand I probably would have found it even harder to look at the film on its own terms, rather than as an adaptation
I'm not intending to find out everything about EP 7 before it comes out, but its both fun and a little reassuring to learn a little beforehand. With a film this Big it's very likely most of the rumours are totally wrong anyway...
I guess I'm too impatient/ curious for my own good.
(A guy I know went to the auditions in London, and his cousin was apparently involved with building a few of the props, I learnt very little from them, but some of the rumours and random guesses from me combined could make for a worrying film)

Eldorion wrote:I'm really curious about what's worrying you, Malick
I did start to write out a long and detailed/boring response, but the post was rambling (as my replies often are) and was wiped by accident so I'll keep this short:
A) Disney-good track record, but obsessed with sequels and universe building, worried they may make things too generic-the prequels were crappy but at least they did something different
B) Abrams-he's got a good eye for visuals, great at directing actors and always turns in a fun film, but he picks some spotty scripts to work with, and is a hardcore fan at heart (which could be good or bad, giving a director a massive budget and freedom to play in his favourite playground could go either way as Jackson proved)
D) It's been 32 years, I sincerely hope they recapture the magic, but they shouldn't try to hard to, or simply not bother-the trailer was great...but it was basically ticking boxes in the safest ways possible
- Spoiler:
- (Desert Planet, Millennium Falcon, Imperial Troopers, Ligthsabre being handed on, Vaders Helmet etc)
And perhaps most importantly
D) As you have probably realized by now I'm a pessimistic nerd by nature

I'm very thankful 7 year old me didn't have access to the Internet at the time...
Kinda wish I could see some of the speculation from back then would be interesting to see how the online fanbase has changed...

Re: Star Wars
I appreciate you outlining your thoughts, Malick. I wouldn't describe myself as optimistic but I'm trying to go along for the ride and hope that the general positivity will help me enjoy the experience (though there's a good chance that I'll enjoy the film much less on later rewatches if the atmosphere plays too big a role).
I used to spend a lot of time reading through old archives of LOTR (and to some extent Star Wars) forums and newsgroups. Some things were quite different -- forums played a bigger role for those who were on them, since social media didn't exist yet, and blogs hadn't really begun either so anyone who had their own website had to know at least a little bit of HTML; the whole thing was more traditionally geeky, more computer literate, and yes, more male -- but plenty of other things have remained constant. Like the propensity of nerds to complain about things (something I myself engage in all the time ).

I didn't really follow any spoilers or rumors in the lead up to AUJ, so I didn't know anything about the major changes. I heard they were going to show all the Gandalf stuff and that Radagast would be in it. Had no idea about Azog and female elf warriors and love triangles. I feel like if I read that entire detailed plot synopsis I won't have to see the movie at all, and I probably won't want to see it.
