Re: Star Wars
Hopefully it might get on youtube long enough to be seen before comedy central snatches it away.

Re: Star Wars
The crux (hee hee) of the arugment is that there is actually only one blade, but there are multiple focusing crystals in the lightsaber that split it into three parts. Therefore, your enemy can't slide their saber down and slice off the little nub thingie on the hilt, because that's just a casing that surrounds part of the plasma crossguard.

BTW, when he started talking up his technical analysis, he was pulling out his macbook air, which he promptly flipped over to show the drawing taped on the back.

His mac air is a constant theme. When it first came out he rushed out to buy one, then demonstrated how well the thin edge worked as a vegetable chopper.

Re: Star Wars
Apparently Lucas's treatments for the sequel Trilogy were (unsurprisingly) discarded:

I always thought Lucas was a pretty good themes and concept guy, but rather poor at executing them, it's probably for the best.

Re: Star Wars
Never sure about this sort of thing- not Lucas not being involved but Abrams dumping the original writer and bringing in his own guy to work with him on the script- given how absolutely awful and plot hole riddled and devoid of substance and meaning the two St films have been I dont see anything penned by Abrams as being a good thing in anyway at all.

Re: Star Wars
Given that Lucas had the plot mapped out for years but tends to throw in things like midichlorians and Binks's if let off the leash, the best scenario would be what happened with Empire Strikes Back: Lucas outlines, somebody else writes the script.
Despite the gag orders, I think members of the cast would at least say if they thought it was a great story/script, but I don't recall reading any such comments.
I don't think this film will count as canon.

Fair point, but Abrams never claimed to be a Star Trek fan, Lawrence Kasdan (SW7's co writer) has a great track record (Empire, Raiders and ROTJ) and by his own admission regrets turning down Lucas's invite to working on the prequels (i.e he thought they were shite like veryone else, maybe he could have reined in Lucas a little) Abrams strengths lie in visuals, pacing and guiding the actors, hopefully as a hardcore fan of the series he'll have the sense to let someone better guide the story...
It's probably going to be be shit anyway, let's not forget Jackson and Boyens (and Bakshi) all claimed to be fans of Tolkien...

I'm not holding my breath (to be honest the main thing I'm hoping for in terms of Star Wars are decent new video games-Battlefront 3, Rogue Squadron 4 and (you never know...) a remake of Shadows Of The Empire) for anything good, but a fresh pair of hands guiding the film can only be a good thing i.m.o with the expanded universe mostly now non-canon I don't have any expectations either way...
Lucas seemed to have changed his mind on the Sequel Trilogy quite a lot, I remember reading an interview with Mark Hamill where he claimed Lucas had planned 4 Trilogies originally...
At least if it's sh*t we#ll have something else to be crabbit about for a few months

Re: Star Wars
Kashdan does have a good track record, for my money Empire is the best of the original trilogy, its the perfect middle film in a trilogy- it develops characters, sets up a shocker reveal and lays all the pieces and peril out for the final third and the good guys are left in a shitty position and the bad guys with the upper hand.
In fact exactly like how Tolkien leaves TT and yet another time when Pj completely drops the ball in his version by leaving both story strands on up notes instead of down.
'let's not forget Jackson and Boyens (and Bakshi) all claimed to be fans of Tolkien...'
And out of those I d say it only shows in Bakshi's work- whose issues are more to do with budget, time, technique and the like rather than a failure to adapt the material, which in my view whilst way to truncated by time, adapts the material much more faithfully than PJ ever does, giving us Tolkiens characters for the most part and Tolkiens dialogue in most instances, even when shortened.

Re: Star Wars
Well when that scene was written and filmed, Lucas hadn't yet come up with the idea that Vader was actually Luke's father. But if any ruination took place, it was after TESB, when that link was established. From that point on, we knew who Vader was and much of what he had done. He was part of a genocidal Empire and we'd all but seen him torture Leia in the first film. It's not a huge stretch to conclude that some of that stuff was done while he still carried his original lightsaber.
