Re: Star Wars
16-17 year old leads? I was guessing they would be playing Han and Leia's kids but that sounds too young.

Going by the character descriptions... I would say they are of new lineage all together. I am sure the girl has no parents and the boy doesn't have a father figure in his life.

Oh Ok then, lonely orphans then...*cliche*.
Either way it will be great to see actual teenage leads in the films, JJ Abrams got some pretty decent performances out of the kids in Super 8, so fingers crossed.
Don't really get why they are Holding auditions in London when the cast will likely be American.

Re: Star Wars
Is the casting call based on the original (Michael Arndt) script? Cause I recall reading that it got thrown out and Abrams and Kasdan are replacing the whole thing.

Because they are being made here.malickfan wrote:

Re: Star Wars
As was SW (the original) I believe.

Re: Star Wars
Just gotta get this off my chest. The Empire Strikes Back isn't nearly as great a move as the original Star Wars (my generation never calls it "A New Hope" ).
The original was mythical; the sequel was merely good worksmanship. You didn't have a young man entering the mystical realm; he was already in it. It wasn't a battle between good and evil; the lines were blurred. The only thing that made it a truly memorable movie was the introduction of Yoda.

Re: Star Wars
I think thats harsh- the Hoth battle is a spectacular opening, Lando is a great character to introduce, Yoda was brilliantly done and the Force stuff explained more whilst retaining its mysticism, and indeed deepening it and without managing to ruin it (looking at you Phantom Menance)and it has an epic ending with a huge cliffhanger revelation and it had Boba Fett when he was still enigmatic and therefore cool.
Its a brilliant example of how to do a middle film in a trilogy.

Re: Star Wars
Think the original trilogy are a great example of how you can't make a film for everyone. I bet if you did a survey of everyone that has seen them and asked to rate 1-10, I'm sure you would get very mixed results.
I like all of them, but my favourite is Return of the Jedi.

Re: Star Wars
One of the two gay robots will be returning for Star Wars VII.
Maybe after the prequel trilogy, C-3PO is too embarrassed to be in the next movies, cuz we know he was made by the bad guy.

Re: Star Wars
It wouldn't be Star Wars without C-3PO and R2D2. Lucasfilm and Abrams both know that audiences expect to see them, and its easy/ier to replace the actors since you can't see them in the previous films. There's no way that either Threepio and Artoo won't be in the sequels.

More possible casting rumors:
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/star-wars/28296/jason-flemyng-matt-smith-linked-with-star-wars-episode-vii
Both are quite talented character actors, but Star Wars is a massive leap even from Doctor Who, I'd be pleased to see either get a supporting role but as leads? Can't quite see it myself.
And EMPIRE is definitely the best of the OT imo.

Re: Star Wars
Smith has a lot of theatre and a few films under his belt as well as Who, I would say he is as prepared for a film role as say someone like Cumberbatch is (who has a similar resume).

In case anyone doesn't know, the waterfall is from a deleted scene from TPM. Though obviously Jar Jar didn't die in the original.
Re: Star Wars
Why not? could have redeemed the who new trilogy right there.

First thing’s first: according to THR, the script for Star Wars: Episode VII has been significantly reworked since Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over screenwriting duties last fall. The official reason given for the screenwriter change was that the Episode VII crew was facing an impending deadline with the film’s December 2015 release date, but THR says the actual reason for the shift was a difference in opinion over which characters to emphasize.
Arndt apparently felt that the main characters of Star Wars: Episode VII should be the offspring of Luke Skywalker (Hamill), Han Solo (Ford), and Princess Leia (Fisher), with the original Star Wars actors taking supporting roles in the story. Abrams felt differently, as he was eager to focus Episode VII on Luke, Han, and Leia “so audiences could have one more chance to enjoy them before a fitting send-off.”

Re: Star Wars
Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher have not aged well at all. Part of the reason Harrison Ford wouldn't be a shock is we've been watching him for the last 35 years, otherwise he'd be a turn off as well - just not as bad as the other two.
If they can use them to comedic effect they might pull it off, otherwise, bad, bad idea.

Re: Star Wars
Harrison Ford has basically been phoning it in for a while. Mark Hamill has become a pretty good voice actor, and I think Carrie Fisher is finally off cocaine.
Abrams pretty much just tanked this whole thing for me.

Re: Star Wars
Well yeah.
But I remember a ton of people were stoked about the sequels and thought it would be a return to form for Star Wars and would be really great.
