Doctor Who [3] - Page 19 Empty Re: Doctor Who [3]

Post by Pettytyrant101 Mon Sep 10, 2012 2:03 pm

I too thought the scenes between Amy and the Doctor were particularly effective Tin and beautifully played by them both.
Spoiler:

In Who news the Doctor has seen off his first main rival and I couldnt be happier.
Following two successive weeks of trouncing its main TV opposition Red or Black the quiz show has been pulled.
I am particularly pleased about this for a number of reasons- its a Simon Cowell show- its had pot loads of cash thrown at it including a winner on Sat's show of 1.5 milllion pounds- normally Cowell trials these things here, takes them to the US then exports them to every country in the world with a tv station- dont expect to see Red or Black any day soon however and anything that hurts the Cowell machine and stops the schedules being filled with rubbish end of the pier acts suits me.
Secondly its the worst 'quiz' ever- being essentially a 50/50 guessing game with no skill or judgement required at all- its pure chance. So it deserves to die.
And thirdly its hosted by the UK saturday night TV gnomes Ant and Dec, who would like to be Morcambe and Wise or the Two Ronnies but lack the talent or skill- but whose brand of saturday night 'banter' mixed with variety acts and a game show combined have so far made them a huge (but to me mystreous) success story.
Its good to know the power of Cowell and those two still wasn't enough to make a dent in Who's figures which so far are holding steady (if not up a smidgen) on previous years.

The Ai fgiures (appreciation index) have been released for dinosaurs a very healthy 87 and the highest for a drama that day with only the paralympics and the last night of the proms scoring higher.

And the final consolidated viewing figures for Asylum is - 8.33 million. And that figure does not include those who watched on the BCC i-player - so it doesnt include me fo example.

This proves once and for all that the overnight figures (which the tabloids like to use) are pretty meaningless for Who as the consolidated final figures are always 2-3 million higher.
Every new season the press cheekily take the overnights (asylums was about 5.3 million) and compare it to last years premiere (imp Astro which got about 8.5 consolidated) and claim the show has lost 3 million viewers- of course they are comparing overnights to consolidated so its not true- in fact I think Asylum was up slightly on last series opener on the consolidated figures.

Anyone else watched Dinosaurs in a Spaceship yet- curious to know what others make of it- I gave it a second viewing last night and feel on relfection I was actually a bit harsh on it first viewing- it went by in a flash on second viewing, theres barely a wasted moment in it (I could do without the triceratops bit still but the kids would love it), but I really, really enjoyed just going along for the ride the second time through. Huge fun.

This is why I advise you watch episode as soon as possible- I was amazed Asylum lasted as long as it did (but as it was posted by the same person as posted dinosaurs I would guess its now gone too- so if you didnt take the chance to watch while you could folks you missed it).

We finished season 2 yesterday.
Didn't Petty complain about Love and monsters and Fear her? L&M is lovely little episode, Elton is cute and it's nice with a different perspective.

Fear her is fascinating, seeing it again reminded me that the real mystery should be why the lady and the girl lives inside a page from the IKEA catalog.

Final two eps are lovely though.
Spoiler:

Now I am looking forward to the Runaway Bride, since I haven't seen it before.

Runaway Bride is good- and Donna (Catherine Tate) is great in it.

Fear Her is at the top of most lists of worst Who episode of Nu Who. It does however share similar themes with the series 6 episode Night Terrors- with the little boy George and all the bad things in his closet and the power of love.

Runaway Bride is another great one. I I love you Donna. In my opinion season 4 is the best of all NuWho. Very Happy

Wasnt too keen on 'Fear Her', but its quite interesting.
