How am I being aggressive? You asked why I was making a "fuss" and I explained why PJ's statement bothered me to the best of my ability. I don't even know who the unnamed commentator that I am responding to is, but I try to back up my statements when I make them. Obviously that doesn't preclude other people from having their own opinions.

This has nothing to do with opinions Mrs Figg- this about the content of the appendices- which anyone can see- to say they are merely an expanded version of his hobbit notes (which he hadnt even begun yet at the time of writing the appendices) is simply untrue- you only need to read them to see the vast bulk of them have nothing to do with TH.
Its as simple as that- what PJ said is wrong. The evidence for that is clear as day and right there in the book.
No need to take it personally, its not meant personally, just thats the facts. What PJ said is not true.

I didn't attack anyone and I didn't tell anyone that they have to change their opinions. I was asked a question about my statement and I responded. If you didn't want me to respond, you shouldn't have asked the question. I also don't try to discount what other people say based on their credentials or anything else.

I've had disagreements with most of the people here about one issue or another over the years and I think that by and large we get along fine. I'm not bothered or offended by people with a different opinion then me. What does bother me a little is being told that I'm trying to shut people down. You've raised this issue before but I'm still not seeing hoe elaborating on my opinion -- especially when I've just been asked about it -- is the same as telling other people they have to agree with me.

EDIT: Seriously, how is my response to your post an attack? Attacking someone and disagreeing with them is not the same thing. If it was, then you would have "attacked" me by stating your disagreement with my first post on the matter. Clearly that's not what happened, though.

People get a say, people get pissed off with other, people make up with each other, or not, and people learn to disagree with each other - sometimes amiably even, in the end, kinda, sometimes....

if they never say "you're wrong", "no that is not how it is", "you're an idiot for believing that" or whatever rhymes with that, then it probably isn't attacking. It isn't attacking if they just have longer list of arguments than you do. If I for instant say I like the changes they've done in the Hobbit and my only argument is "yes, I'm worried, but hey, I have faith in PJ" and Petty's list is 6 feet long 12 inches, it looks like he attacks me because it seems he has better reasons for it and more points at the pro/cons than I do. I feel I have little to defend myself with my little argument (and therefore attacked because you can't defend that one sencence agains a hundred) but in the end, who weighs they heaviest? My faith and hope or that he has a shitload of reasons? ehm, no one wins. cause who can question faith? especially my faith? and if he has no knowledge of faith in PJ.

(I hope that wasn't a mess, there is a meaning and some wisdom in there)

But we are never competing or attacking- I am mainly upset-thank Eru for the buckie - because I am so horrified Mrs Figg would think that I would attack her or try to supress her views. okay, not winning, but having the better hand? is that better? not too good with english synonyms and such colourful lanugage. but what I mean was that when you have only a few reasons to why you like certain things, like "I have faith in PJ!" you might feel like you're being attacked because the other part has much more thought through reasons which he/she elaborates deeply on. I am not saying either that anyone here is attacking, this is just a simple misunderstanding. May have to do with the fact that you guys are well educated ranters and PJ lovers are, well soft hearted PJ lovers.
