Fortunately he got to finish his run as Snape. Nobody else could have filled those shoes.

Re: RIP
On a personal note RIP Laura- the nicest, kindest, most warm hearted resident I have had the pleasure to care for. 102 years was too few for you. You will be missed.

RIP Rickman. Gruber and Snape will both live on mainly due to his performances.

102 is a good long run, and to leave people behind who respect and miss you is a tribute to a life well lived, and as much as any of us can ever hope for.

I know, it feels kind of personal doesn't it? It seems to me that Decembers and Januaries have been taking more than their fair share in recent years. Hopefully spring will be kinder..

Re: RIP
Alan Rickman! Seems a bit surreal. My Dad has had a stroke at 90. Thought we'd lose him - still may. Some people seem immortal and it's sometimes a shock when you find they're not. Mum is now in a home due to her dementia. Petty can tell you what a task my Dad had looking after her at 90! The natural order has done a somersault. January - well, damn you January! Dad should have been an Elve - but no, he had to be human!

Heatwave here. 42 Celsius on Wednesday. Lost all my chooks, all 5. Talk about January. Freezing in the uncivilized hemisphere and frying down here where civilised hobbits live. I wonder who thought up January! Should be horsewhipped!

102 ! the things that lady has seen & lived thru ! Sincere wishes to you & your family Orwell. I think its too sad. No one should fade away into dementia & strokes & all the other debilitating things that are waiting to trap us.

She was a remarkable women. 102 years in this world, born in 1913, she was 5 when WW1 ended and 25 when ww2 broke out. She saw the arrival of the car, television, cinema as mass entertainment and the creation of the NHS, she was 47 when the Beatles were formed, 49 when the Cuban Missile Crisis started, 50 when Kennedy was assassinated and she saw the beginning of Doctor Who, 52 when the US entered Vietnam, and Saw Armstrong walk on the moon when she was 56, she was 66 when Thatcher came to power and (100 when Thatcher died) she saw the invention of the internet, satellites, and too many things to contemplate- but after all this time, all 102 years of her life, it somehow only made her kinder.

Re: RIP
It doesnt get any better- RIP Robert Banks Stewart- script writer- he wrote scripts for Danger Man, The Human Jungle, Top Secret, The Sweeney and The Avengers. And for Doctor Who where he wrote the now considered classic Terror of the Zygons, creating the Zygons along the way, he was then commissioned to write the series six part finale and came up with Seeds of Doom, creating the Kyrniods this time.
In his later career he created Shoestring and then Bergerac which ran for 9 years and was a ratings success, and probably his biggest hit was last, his adaptation to tv of Darling Buds of May, launching the career of Catherine Zeta Jones along the way.
Farewell Robert Banks Smith. Another victim of cancer.
Thankyou for lots of great TV, but from me, especially for Who- RIP
