I really liked Jumanji when I was a kid. Would love to watch it again.

Re: RIP
The Genie was my favorite character when I was little. I was even the Genie in Aladdin when I was 10. I'd sing to "friend like me" before I could even talk correctly! Loved Flubber too! Loved him so much. Part of me wonders what would have happened if all of this love was shown to him before he died.

Re: RIP
IL miss him to. Its so sad, but, out of all the sad passing of so many great people this year I think he'll stick in my mind longer because of the daft things he did & said, Who's gonna forget Nanu Nanu ? He had an infectious smile that really shone out. and he seemed so manic. I wont watch BiCentennial Man again, it was sad to watch then but now...

Re: RIP
Lauren Bacall is gone at 90. She had a long, dignified carrier, and she owned any screen she appeared on. With Katherine Hepburn, she helped redefine for Hollywood what a strong woman character could be. I'll never get tired of the banter between her and Bogie in "Big Sleep"!

Re: RIP
Lauren Bacall was mesmerizing, but I felt the death of Kate Hepburn more keenly: Bacall was a fascinating, challenging sexual presence; Kate was more of a great soul.

Re: RIP
I can't argue with that a bit Halfwise, except to say that LB was not only a fascinating, challenging sexual presence, she was smart, and her characters were allowed to show it. The idea that a woman could be both hot and smart at the same time, (or even that smart was hot ) was groundbreaking in its time, at least for Hollywood.Halfwise wrote: Bacall was a fascinating, challenging sexual presence; Kate was more of a great soul.
I remember the surprise and pleasure on realizing that Bacall was the voice of the witch in "Howl's Moving Castle". As an actor she aged well. I wish she'd gotten more movie roles in later years.

Re: RIP
I think her intelligence was less surprising in her roles as older women. Older women are allowed to be smart. As you point out her particular genius was in demonstrating how a young woman could be both smart and sexy without needing to bring in the disarming playfulness that is usually used for such combinations.
She was playful, but it wasn't a childlike playfulness.

Re: RIP
I am sorry for her loved ones and family, but unfortunately for me she died just a bit too late.
I have always admired her her wit and use of language, and for being a woman in a difficult field of entertainment to be one, but her comments not long ago about the Palestinians, not made in any sort of humour, were for me despicable.

Richard Attenborough! No!
It had to happen, but watching Jurassic Park will never be the same.
My goodness Petty that is some rather judgmental language. "She died too late, so despicable, despite the admiration I had for her." You sound a bit like a politician!
Still, shouldn't be flaming up against the Palestinians I suppose. (I'm sure whatever she said was very insensitive and rude and perhaps even cruel, but don't bring up the details. RIP and all that).

I used to see Joan on tv years ago but, I dunno, it all waned a bit for me. when she was funny she was funny. A bit like Jim Carrey, when hes good hes good but when hes bad hes fooking awful I do like dry wit & a bit of a sarcastic humour but, if it gets TO personal it turns me right off

Re: RIP
she made her career out of being outrageous, she was brutaly honest and rude, and I admire her honesty and lack of hypocracy and political correctness. Whether I agreed with everything she said is beside the point. How many people in showbiz really say what they think? not many I wager.

Re: RIP
There is that figgy, but talking of honesty, how much is around anyway ? Not just with celebs but anyone ? It seems like honesty is a thing to be feared, we are so scared of being honest with our friends, family, so scared of being rejected that we shield ourselves & become "yes men" sometimes. Im maudling, sorry but, I was laying carpet down tonight & one of my neighbours not only pissed me off but got me thinking.

Re: RIP
I'm skeptical. To draw each little section independently and still get the overall proportions, lighting, shading and hews exactly consistent throughout....well, I've never seen it done that way. It's the hardest way to do it, and yet the result is nearly perfect.
It looks more like they started with a retouched photo, then painted over it in sections, ending with a white canvas. Then they cut it up and edited it all back together in mostly reverse order. That would be the easy way to do it, I think.

I agree. I once found her amusing - but in the end - and looking back too - I thought much of her humour ugly and cruel and, indeed, not very funny. Cheap humour is cheap humour. Being nasty as your prime strategy of getting a laugh is just plain laziness and perhaps a reflection of one's true character. Speak ill of the dead? She would have! Maybe she'll read this from Heaven and giggle...
