My nephew was just watching Drop Dead Fred yesterday!

Re: RIP
Just read the news- hugely sadened- a large part f the ocmedy I grew up watchng came from him and the alternative comedians of that period.
Only 59 too and not even Scottish!
I did like Ade Edmondsons tribute to him though, very fitting for their style of humour-
"There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing.
They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him.
And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard."
Clips from Bottom
And a favourite character of his for me, Tory MP Alan B'stard-

Re: RIP
Yeah still really sad about this British comedy performing and writing just became a lot safer, duller and less inventive again with his loss.
The BBC had some of his most famous scenes and characters, a few of my favourites from their list-
From the Young Ones-
Rick: God, I'm bored. Might as well be listening to Genesis.
Rick: I'm going to write to my MP!
Neil: But you haven't got an MP, Rick, you're an anarchist.
Rick: Oh right. Then I shall write to the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen.
Bottom-
Richie: What about pin the tail on the donkey?
Eddie: We haven't got a donkey.
Richie: Well, pin the tail on the chicken.
Eddie: We haven't got a tail.
Richie: Oh. Well, pin the sausage on the chicken?
Eddie: We haven't got a chicken.
Richie: Well, pin the sausage on the fridge.
Eddie: Or a pin.
Richie: Sellotape a sausage to the fridge!
Eddie: We haven't got a sausage!
Richie: Put a bit of sellotape on the fridge!
Eddie: It's not much of a game, is it?
Blackadder-
Flashheart: Just because I can give multiple orgasms to the furniture just by sitting on it, doesn't mean that I'm not sick of this damn war: The blood, the noise, the endless poetry.
The New Statesmen-
Alan B'Stard: We hear an awful lot of leftie whingeing about NHS waiting lists. Well the answer's simple. Shut down the health service. Result? No more waiting lists. You see, in the good old days, you were poor, you got ill and you died. And yet these days people seem to think they've got some sort of God-given right to be cured. And what is the result of this sloppy socialist thinking? More poor people. In contrast, my policies would eradicate poor people, thereby eliminating poverty. And they say that we Conservatives have no heart.

Anarchist: Next week, right, I'm going to blow up a panda in Croydon.
Rick: Yeah, right on! Bloody zoos, who needs 'em.
Anarchist: I mean a police car, you terminal wally!
Rick: [trying to host a party] That's my flatmate Vyvyan. Hi, Vyvyan, what are you doing?Vyvyan: [pauses from doing push-ups] Shut up, you girl!
Rick: [laughs] He's incredible! I'm not a girl at all! Mind you, we're all pretty potty in this house. Re: RIP
Its a shame, but, he lived to a great age. The last time I saw him was in a film with Cameron Diaz & Kate winslet called "The Holiday" He was still sharp then & he must have been getting on.

He was great, very funny but could also do serious. Just look at Good Will Hunting or Dead Poet's Society. Mrs. Doubtfire was, and is still, fucking hilarious.

He was great in Insomnia, One Hour Photo, and Good Morning Vietnam.
Apparently he'd actually just signed on for a Doubtfire sequel.

Re: RIP
I heard about the Robin Williams news at dinner from my step-brother. Totally blindsided by it; he was not a celebrity who I expected to die anytime soon. I watched Mrs Doubtfire a lot when I was young, but my favorite of his roles was Good Will Hunting, which I first saw only a couple of years ago but already adore.
