I'm not sure if stepping away from the computer for an hour and a half to eat dinner and help wash up afterwards really counts as me "lurking".

Chicago mix should definitely be 70% cheddar corn and 30% caramel corn

Re: Holidays and absences
Kooky, I have trouble imagining Mrs Figg thinking that these Ladies are to be truly and wholy blamed (except with a few exceptions as rightly alluded to by Petty in posts earlier) for the situation they find themselves in. And, yes, some - or many? -may not be the brilliant Intellects of the type that frequent Forumshire.
My point is, by calling them 'bimbos', it comes across to me more as an outburst of annoyance with them than an actual condemnation. The real problem for Mrs Figg, as I see it, is the knowledge she has of the sexist (patriarchal?) forces that consciously or sub-consciously coerce their lives.
Yes, even victims play a role in their predicament to a small or large degree btw. Sometimes I've been a bit annoyed at victims. In frustration I've sometimes thought, ''You stupid woman, don't you get it?'* How's that for a confession! But I don't do it often, I assure you. (Frustration and fatigue are usually the catalyst). I'm usually peculiarly aware of my natural human tendancy to judge. When my rational () mind kicks in, I never blame nor condemn victims, nor make judments about their intelligence or morality. And nor does Mrs Figg, I think, even if it sometimes seems otherwise (not really, when one looks deeper into Mrs Figg's outbursts... )
{{{Mrs Figg, I'm getting angry now. Come back and speak for yourself! }}}
NOTE: * Sometimes it's: 'You stupid man, don't you get it?' Most of the victims I deal with are women.

I just try to hide what an asshole I truly am, except for moments like now when my facade breaks down.

Re: Holidays and absences
I've read them. I don't mistake 'annoyed' outbursts as being true and accurate accounts (always) of her deeper perpectives - nor do they always seem to me be a true articulation or manifesto of who she is or what things she stands for. But, yes, at times one must read between the lines with Mrs Figgs, methinks. I find it easy enough to do... though, then again...
Hey! Maybe I just get her?

Re: Holidays and absences
I'm not interested in debating Mrs Figg by proxy via you. If she wants to call me on anything when she comes back she's more than welcome to do so herself. I don't pretend that all of my posts, especially not my subjective impressions of a conversation, are always right.

How did I miss all this? ... ...Pettytyrant101 wrote:and will do my best to avoid such issues in the future.- Eldo
I was with you right up till that point Eldo!
You always have two choices- stand by you words, or revise them in light of a new perspective- both are perfectly honourable positions to take.
Avoiding a topic to avoid upset is not in my view. Very anti-crabbit in principle.
Orwell- Hey! With all the buckie in me half flaccid is a bloody miracle without resorting to a splint {{{ besides at least I was here to defend against the circling womenfolk }}}

I'll be frank, I don't see any problem with discusing your comments about her 'looking down' on certain women, however uncomfortable it may (or may not) be for you. And, yes, maybe enough has been said on that score. You certainly know my thoughts now. Nonetheless, one point I suddenly think I would like to add is: if you turn out to be right in your assertion that Mrs Figg does actually look down on these women, I'd be personally pretty disappointed. I trust and believe Mrs Figg is better than that. But I accept I might be wrong. If that is actually the case, then you clearly owe no apology.

Re: Holidays and absences
I didn't assert shit. I commented on how Mrs Figg's posts came across to me personally (and Carly has done a good of explaining why since she clearly noticed some of the same things that I did). I don't claim to be a mind-reader and I have no fucking clue what Mrs Figg's true opinion is, much less how she would express when not in the midst of a heated discussion.Orwell wrote:...if you turn out to be right in your assertion that Mrs Figg does actually look down on these women...
I don't appreciate all the things people are reading into a post that was only two goddamned lines long in the first place.
Re: Holidays and absences
Are you now asserting now that the two godammed lines can't ever offend? Sorry... not asserting... um... suggesting.... mentioning...?
But I'd actually like to hear from Amarie on this. She was angered about something - but maybe it was a different tree than the one I'm barking at.

Re: Holidays and absences
No, I didn't say that. There's a lot of things that people have accused me of saying today, some of which are legitimate interpretations of my posts (even if it's not what I intended) and some of which are made from whole cloth.
Re: Holidays and absences
You 'feel' it - not 'assert' it. Fair enough.Eldorion wrote:You make some good points, Mrs Figg, but I feel that at least among the people in this thread, you are looking down on women who dress revealingly more than any of the men here.

Are you dense? One of those is a subjective impression I got from reading the thread, the other is a concrete claim about someone else's beliefs.Orwell wrote:You 'feel' it - not 'assert' it. Fair enough.
