Re: Holidays and absences
I really would prefer raining and 6 degrees at the moment. At least a nice jumper would make you feel good and comfortable, there is no escape from this heat. I feel like a limp lettuce. with a dead slug in it.

Re: Holidays and absences
We just had our hottest day of the year so far: 58F (that's 20 for you non-Americans.) We even had a little sun.
But then the closest town any of you might have heard of is Forks, Washington where the 'Twilight' novels and movies are set.
I don't need Mrs Figg's weather, but it sure would be nice to get some kind of summer sometime....Gotta grow some carrots.

Not personally, but our high school used to regularly play against Forks High School. Imagine my surprise to learn we'd been competing against vampires and werewolves!
By the way the Quilliute tribe is very real, and I understand that for the most part they're not amused by their portrayal in the books and films (though I suspect that Team Jacob has been good for the love lives of some of the young men of the tribe.... )

Welllllll........there are some of the young men from La Push who may tell you they're Jacob Black.
It's not my place to argue the point.

haha lol... (sarcastic) we should have a sarcastic lol emoticon. cause 99% of the time I use lol I am being sarcastic.
Re: Holidays and absences
I actually thought the first Twilight film was very beautiful to look at because of the scenery and the atmosphere, I didnt know La Push really existed, or Forks for that matter. The music was cool too.

I'm not Native American, but Team Jacob has been good to me as well.
Re: Holidays and absences
Mrs Figg, I haven't seen the movie, but the scenery on the Olympic Peninsula is spectacular when the rain and fog lift. I'm on the south edge and we have trees on our farm that are 170 feet tall and 15 feet around. Those are babies compared to the giants in the heart of the rainforest. The surf is big and crashes on high rocks or sandy coves, often driven by winds over 100 knots ( they're so common they don't ever call them hurricanes, just storms), and the Olympic mountains rising out of it all. But we get about 8 feet of rain annually, and in the heart they'll often get double that. It takes a special kind of person (or werewolf....)
And Eldo, I'm glad that worked out for you

Re: Holidays and absences
well if you ever do see the first film (the others are crap), you must tell me if its accurate, there are some wonderful panoramic shots in a rainy grey cloudy forest landscape, and La Push had some screen time too, it looked dreamy.

Re: Holidays and absences
I read the two first books. Thet could've stopped at the first because after it it just went downwards. it basically sucks storywise. dunno about the movies, but they suck too. anyone seen "vampire sucks"? a parody. really finny and frightingly accurate.
Re: Holidays and absences
I've seen twilight and whatever number two was called. Then again, number one and number two does sum up what I thought of them. But "Vampires suck" was good!! Def. team Edward (Edit: What? Jacob of course, I blame the kids for distracting me so I got the names mixed up) though, if I had to choose.

Re: Holidays and absences
Amarië's review confirms my suspicions, so I doubt I'll be watching Twilight just to critique the scenery, but I understand they did a pretty good job despite filming most of it in coastal Oregon. It's less dramatic with better weather, but still the same general environment.
The population of Forks used to be mostly loggers until environmental regulations made it difficult to cut giant old-growth timber in the late 1980's. By the 90's the towns were extremely depressed economically (and psychologically), struggling to get a tourist business going in the rainiest place in the USA except Alaska and Hawaii.
Then "Twilight" exploded onto the scene, and suddenly dozens of tour buses and hundreds of cars of fans came flooding daily into these tiny villages with only one small grocery shop left.
It was hilarious! Now all the shops have reopened with vampire themed restaurants and gift shops. Hundreds of them it seems. A whole new economy has sprung up 'sucking blood' form tourists. It seems somehow appropriate.
I snagged a few pictures off the web that are typical. There's an area the size of Cornwall like this:
