what about people who are not from those places? I still think some Elvish would be nice, I wonder if the Loremasters know how to spell Forumshire in Elvish? you know what would be cool but probably a bit complicated, if we had the doors of Moria open to reveal your video of Forumshireland, showing a screencap of the various lands, and above it in Elvish the words 'speak Forumshire and enter'. probably a bit much however?

Those were just examples Mrs Figg- we would need an Englandshire- an Italianshire or somesuch and a United Shires of America too or some other suitable name.
I'm sure our resident Lore Masters could translate speak Forumshire and enter however.

I'm no linguist but we know pedo mellon a minno means 'speak, friend, and enter' with mellon being friend.

The word for 'Shire' appears to be *Trann -- if we lift i-Drann from The King's Letter anyway (in which example the initial consonant has mutated, I would say).

I'm not sure about the potential fruit of trying to break down the word 'forum' for translation into some Neo-word, if there's nothing better, but athrabeth 'conversation' is attested anyway.

And I don't know a Grey-elven word for 'however' however Wink

Oh, upon reading more of this thread it appears a transcription of 'forumshire' is wanted rather, or the whole 'speak forumshire and enter (however)' -- that is, written in the Elvish characters, not in an Elvish language.

Yes?

It would be easier to transcribe the English into Elvish writing, yes, but only because of the seeming problem of translating 'forumshire' so far (maybe someone else has an idea there) -- as (as noted by Norc) we have most of this in the tongue of the Sindar already, and already written in the Mode of Beleriand too.

That said, for myself I have no skill at the magic of making pictures appear on this modern device, and am too set in my ways to learn. Calligraphy with a pen for me! Dipped in magic boar's blood when I can get it, which is not often since I'll slay no beast for it.

Not that actual one- in that we'd need to get it a bit neater, and maybe use a more calligraphy style stroke (I know thats what youve gone for there- but needs a bit of work yet)- but the shapes- most definetly.

It might look a bit better once a stylish font is chosen Very Happy

And for myself, I would put the last vowel (e) beneath the last consonant. Or did JRRT not do this in English, word final examples? I think he placed the dot beneath the character called rómen in 'herein' in any event, in The Lord of the Rings.

FORUMSHIRE ART GALLERY - Page 3 Norate10

don't even think it's correct :S I couldn't get the a where I wanted it so I tried the other way (placing the following vowel on top of the letter it follows)

(edit: it says Onar.. I failed)
