Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Still working my way through the books, half-way through the second one I love the characters as well. The chapters tell the stories of the characters, and each chapter is named after the character it is about, so you get to know the (many) main characters very well. That's what I like so much about this series; it's not all plot and wars, it's also very much about the characters involved.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Season 3, that's been a while.
NRK can be a bit slow can't they. Though I guess it makes sense to send it as a build up to the new series.
Now, what happened in the first two episodes?
I can't even remember.
Maybe I should be rewatching as well.
Not gotten around to the books, but glad to hear you enjoy them Ringo.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Been watching series one and two. Good show and better still I don't need to read the books now.

Yeah, not as much poetry as in Tolkien. It's one of the cases where the films are actually a very suitable stand-in for the books - he was a scriptwriter before an author, and tends to write the way you see it on screen, even when the characters are thinking to themselves. I'd put the enjoyment factor as about equal between books and films.

Yes, the series does have a character named Bran!*Norc wrote:yepp, the characters are believable and rounded, i love that about it they're not a bunch of names with something happening to them, they have a bran* too

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Hopefully just in time for me to have read the books Though I'll have to start watching the show as well, so perhaps it doesn't matter all that much

It might create some mental confusion if you are trying to keep up with film plot and a separate book plot at the same time. Will be an interesting experiment.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I still have half of Season 1 and all of Season 2 to catch up on. Not that I have HBO or anything...

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I thought the seasons got better and better each time as they went along, its like a roller coaster of fantastic-ness, by the end of season 3 I was gagging for more medieval mayhem. Every character is a little gem of intense weirdness its like biting on some juicy exotic fruit all squishy and fragrant but with a killer aftertwang.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I'm finding the series a little more frustrating with each episode, though I'm still really keen to watch the next season. (I have watched season three now). I don't think I could find the time to read the books and I doubt I'd sit and watch the series over again. As I said, certain things are beginning to frustrate me - and certain things a bit boring. I'd mention the things that aggrieve me but I can't mention them because I can't get the spoiler thingee to work.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
The way I see it, it's showcasing soe of the same development as the books. At least as far as I've heard. The increasing amount of storylines slows the actual story developmetn down. To the degree that over a series not all that much happens, except for a few large events.
The lack of a need to rush can be a good thing too though.
Also it's still highly enyoable. And what I really feel with this seeries is that it's very apparent, compared to some others, that it has it's basis in a properly created fantasy world and a properly written fantasy series.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Just finished the second book, and immediately bought the third This series is growing more on me with every chapter, and has done so since I was about halfway through the first book. Thank Eru (or the Seven) that fantasy like this is still being written

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Í'm reading The Wind in the Willows at the moment. I find myself searching out old favorites. Robert Jordan, J.K. Rowling and George R.R. Martin. They sound like pulp to me. The show is pulp, too, but I don't mind a rollicking pulp adventure (now and then) to kick back and watch. Reading needs time and patience I'm finding --- or found when I first read Tolkien.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Well, this series certainly needs time and patience, but give it a chance and it will suck you in. Besides it rewards an attentive reader. Much more than that can't be asked of a writer, in my opinion

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Cast interview ahead of series 4. No series 4 spoilers really, but a bit of talk of what happened in series 3 and some talk in very broad lines about series 4. So decide for yourself if you want to see it.

Series writers and creators, I think.
At least the one on the left is David Benioff. Posted an interview with him on the last page.
