Re: Doctor Who [2]
"The end of time" is when the Doctor regenerates from 10 to 11 Norc.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
no, they talk german for about 15 seconds in the episode i just saw. no subs whatsoever.
Re: Doctor Who [2]
Which episode was that? Only one I can think of offhand with German in it is the Dalek one "Journeys End".
Not sure if its all the years of watching ww2 films or not but they sound even nastier in German!

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Good stuff Kafria- heres my thoughts on it-
Silence in the library
Silence in the library
- Spoiler:
Lots good here I reckon. Perfomrances are great all round, great setting, usual Moffat fun and games and twisting things around.
I particularly liked CAL watching it on TV- lovely way to associate her with the kids watching at home, especially her reactions at the scary bits.
I am a huge Donna Noble fan, I think she was the best companion in 10's run (sorry Mrs Figg) and she shows why I like her so much in this episode. She can go from comedy to very movng emotional stuff with ease.
They also hit the perfect Who balance- great story and characters and the right amount of scary for the kids.
But overall these two episode strike me as bursting with ideas (some Moffat has reused in slightly different guise since)- from the vashda nerada themselves, to the donated faces on the staues, to River herself of course.
I wonder how much Moffat had planned when he wrote this? And I agree Kafria- when you know the story as far as the end of series 6 going back to this just makes it ever more poignant and sad.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Silence in the library
- Spoiler:
- Agreed Kafria- its either very clever writing, leaving himself enough to work with or great forward planning- not sure which but those episodes could have been written after series 6 and they'd be the same it seems to me- and thats quite something.
And that scene where Miss Evangilesta 'ghosts' I find disturbing as an adult, I think if I had been a kid watching that it would have made quite an impression on me!

Re: Doctor Who [2]
I watched the first part and I enjoyed it, though it was pretty creepy. There's a bunch of stuff I have to take care of today so I won't be able to watch the second part until later but I'll post my thoughts tonight, though it might be tomorrow by then for you European folks.
Re: Doctor Who [2]
And remember the ideal viewing postion for Who Eldo- (And the ideal viewing age 7- imagine how creepy you would have found it then!)

Re: Doctor Who [2]
I was fairly wimpy when it came to movies and TV shows so I would have had trouble falling asleep for weeks afterwards.
Re: Doctor Who [2]
Yup I had many a sleepless night after Who as a kid, but I was back in front of the Tv th enext week for more!
The Master when he got corpsified horrified me as a kid. I had quite a few sleepless nights after that one.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Right here Norc- best use spoilers though as Eldo hasn't seen part 2 yet.
Silence in the library
(This bit is a tiny, tiny bit spoilery-though I've kept it to a minimum of potential spoiling-but I do refer to something-vaguely- in the 11th Hour which is series 5- its just a continution of what I was saying but you might not want to know anything, even a tiny hint, of anything still to come-so it gets seperate spoilers- the explanation for this is a lot longer than whats in the spoilers you know! )
Silence in the library
- Spoiler:
- What to talk about- the 'ghosting' with echo of the dead persons conciousness? "A freak of technologue"- I find that the most disturbing scene in the film. Brilliant but disturbing.
I also love the cold anger when the (sorry cant remember her name) black woman with the crop haircut gets chomped. "Look me up".

- Spoiler:
- It reminded me of a scene in the 11th Hour, 11's debut where a similar sentiment is expressed by the Doctor in different circumstances, but which nevertheless reassures the viewer that despite the change of face this is definetly still the Doctor. Very clever writing Mr Moffat, as always.

just quoting the whole thing.
Silence in the library
- Spoiler:
- the voice-tech thing was just so sad and.. yes, disturbing. A really effective element to make their deaths sader. And also that you kind of kling on to that and think it's alive but in your heart you know. And that the truth came out, that everyone except Donna treaded that cute girl like a five year old.
Can't wait to see the "continuation, I'm very glad you avoided any spoilers. I'm already very intruiged by moffat's writing. Some humour, though always this creeping gut feeling hanging over and those plot turners akbg
And I must say (seen some Donna episodes) and I feel really sorry for her, she lives her life like.. several times, thinking of the "turn left" episode and this one. She must get so confused.
and one more last thing. I know I haven't watched much, only three with Rose as the companion and the rest with Donna (though I got to see some more of them at the end of series 4), but my favourite is Rose. Donna is really cool and independent and bamf, but Rose is just bamf but, cheeky and fresh. I like her.
Re: Doctor Who [2]
Like Doctors everyone has favourite companions. And Who always provides both a wide variety of character to the companions and continualy replaces them with new ones. If like Mrs Figg you dont take to the current ones you just hang in there (the Doctors always worth it) and more will turn up. As is happening in the new series. I prefer Donna to Rose but I dont dislike Rose, she just did not appeal to me as much as Donna's character. I prefer characters who are a bit damaged by life in some way. Donna is all the things you say about her but she also has a low opinion of herself and her own worth. She is also a bit narrow minded (before the Doctor) and self important. Where for me Rose was that bit to perfect. Probably why my favourite Rose episode is the one about her Dad, "Father's Day"- a 9th Doctor story. You should be able to find it on that site.
I love Moffats writing and have done since I saw Press Gang as a teenager, so I have followed his carrer- not by going on forus ms about him or anyhting just by watching his shows and loving them -and sometimes I didnt realise till after I had seen them he had written them, it wasnt even delibrate- I just love his writting so whenever something he had written came on I loved it. He loves to play. With words, with characters- in everything he does. Doctor Who gives him the one thing even Sherlock cant to play with though- time. And boy does he have fun with that.
The stuff we are watching at the moment (well the stuff you are) is the Russel Davies era (Whovians refer to Who as often by the head writers era as by Doctors- as they have such an influence on the shows direction). MOffat is just one of the series regular writers. He also did Blink in this series, The Gilrl in the Fireplace and the two parter the Empty Child and the Doctor dances (all are superb examples of Who) and now MOffat is Head writer and showrunner and its quite different from the previous RTD era- some people have as hard a time adjusting to these era changes as changes in Doctor, I was like a pig in mud.
RTD is partly a soap, partly a kitchen sink drama, urban, but melded to Doctor Who (often very successfully). Moffats era is Doctor Who the fairytale.

I thought it was a beautiful bit of writing when as she was ghosting she said not to tell the others because they would laugh at her. It just made the point perfectly and naturally without laying it on thick.

I really see why you like Donna. It may be a tigh, haven't really reached a form conclusion, lulz, but she is awesome. And they way that her life isn't perfeect, her mom nags about her not having a real propper job and everything, it appeals to like every woman. Also the self important stuff and that low self thing. And when she meets the doctor he lifts her up and she just.. well, she just brilliant. Should this be in spoilers?
also, I am very curious about this newest companion, the brunette, can't remember her name. I've seen her acting on that terrible BBC titanic movie, she was great, I like her, I think she'll be like fresh air.

I think she'll be like fresh air.- Norc
Well I love the Ponds, they are my favourite companions since Nuwho returned. I love the very fact ther eis more than one companion in the Tardis again. But all companions have their time- you cant run with the Doctor forever, no one can. And a breath of fresh air is exactly what introducing new comapnions (or a new Doctor does) and goes a long way to explaining the show ridiculously long shelf-life (and here it is approaching 50 and finding more new viewers than ever before).
And when she meets the doctor he lifts her up and she just.. well, she just brilliant.- Norc
Thats the Doctor for you- he makes you see the best in yourself and then believe in it.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
I haven't gotten to the ponds yet, I think I'll really like them, looking forward. I've seen them in interviews together and they have a really good chemistry so I think it'll be good.
About the newest companion however, I dunno how the character will be, but in that aweful titanic movie, she played a very strict (she was a maid) determined, positive and confident, and as you pointed out the doctors lifts them up, it like what the doctor do, he makes them do marveles (wrong spelled, I know, don't have time to check) things, but I think this might be different. I don't know. (I know Rose helped the doctor and made him better, but it did go both ways right). bt I dunno, I have yet to see.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
this is her in the titanic shit. Probably doesn't say much about the character , but it's the actress in action and she is very fresh and sweet I think.
