I think it will be fairly obvious when you see them.
Seems Petty is not too fond of them.

Matt looks so chuffed- he does like his sport mind.
Incidentally Matt started his run with the torch from outside the Norwegian Church in Cardiff (not sure what that is beyond a church but apprently its called the Norwegan Church- so me spreading the Who to Fjordian parts seems cosmically to have been given the thumbs up in a very Who sort of way )
Seems Petty is not too fond of them. - Amarie
No, the stories that they are in are full of gaping plot holes (the 2nd one is even worse though) and whilst all the fart jokes might go down well with the 10 year olds, and they are a big part of the audience, they didnt do much for me.
In many ways the Slitheen episodes represent all the things that eventually did my head in about the RTD's period- London landmarks (no10 in this case, Big Ben in the opening), childish humour (as oppposed to child-like humour, only adults can be as poor as to be childish, kids never are), kitchen sink family drama and a plot so thin it goes transparent in direct sunlight.
It does have one saving grace for me though, Harriet Jones, MP.
And Mrs Figg surely everyone likes chips! (and if you're American chips are not what you think they are-always getting the language wrong!! )

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Craig Ferguson, a Scots presenter who got himself a Late Night Chat Show in the US did a recent set of shows from Scotland- so why is this on the Who thread- because Mr Ferguson shares my love of Who and a desire to educate Americans on its unequaled merits he is always promiting it on his show- and how else then would he get from America to Scotland but by TARDIS!

Re: Doctor Who [2]
- Spoiler:
- The second Slitheen one is particularly stupid- we are supposed to believe that Harriet, now PM, lets a women she knows is a Slitheen and who she knows tried to destroy the planet, become Mayor of Cardiff and build a huge nuclear reactor-its complete nonsense. And thats just the premise we are meant to swallow, it only gets worse- such a shame as that particular episode has that one excellent scene in it with just the Doctor and the Slitheen in the restraunt. But the rest of it is just awful.
Really Mrs Figg? You'd rate the Slitheen episodes above anything that has any of the Ponds in it? Wow. There are aspects of Rose's character and writing I don't like, but I wouldn't automatically rate all her episodes as worse than any series 5 or 6 just because she is in them. There is good and bad in every series, and in Who its customary to talk of era's based on the Head Writer who imposes their style. I wasn't too keen on the RTD era you it seems are not keen on the Moffat era. But even an era I dont like the overall style of there is always still great epsodes, its Who, the idea means there will always be good ones. And a new era will be here before you know it, thats the nature of the show. Always the same and yet never the same.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
well lets put it this way, they only time in oh say a hundred and forty years that I have been watching Who, that I have ever switched over channels because I was bored rigid, was with the Ponds. The only Pond episode I liked was the Christmas one in the 1940s where they were there for 5 minutes at the end. They bored me and that gets me crabbit, Slitheens may be silly but they didnt bore me.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
It just seems a bit of an, extreme, stance to take. I cant imagine disliking anything more than I do PJ's LotR's- but even then I managed to salvage something from it I could watch and get some pleasure from. To completely throw out 2 entire series worth of Who based just on not liking Amy seems a bit over the top to me. Especially when the main character, the Doctor, is being portrayed so superbly.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
I am not throwing out an entire series because I dont like Amy thats silly.
But how can I explain it to you in a way you will understand, simply the Ponds (that is both of them), bored me, its not dislike, its boredom. They didnt move me, excite me, interest me, nothing, nada, zilch, niente.
I really really wanted to love the new series, as I have always loved Who, but this time they failed me. I quite like Matt, I dont think he is superb though, and the secondary characters like River, but I found some of the episodes tedious to watch, really banal and tired. The castle and the hotel and the wooden doll ones ones spring to mind, what a creepy and yet strangely yawn inducing thing they were, its like I have seen those story lines a thousand times before, it doesnt have a Who atmosphere to me, Who can be creepy and scary, its not that, its creepy but yet dull. well this is only my opinion and I am entitled to think what I like.
I dont hate it and I dont love it, its blah.
I really hate Yates though.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
I find that fascinating Mrs Figg. Whilst I like a lot of Nuwho until series 5 I never really felt that it captured the feel of classic Who fully. There were touches of it but not until seire 5 did it feel like the original again. You have entirely the opposite view it seems.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
yup entirely opposite. I cared what happened to Eccky and Tennant and co, but this new lot are a bit too clever and 'witty', they keep telling us how simply fantastic and cool the Doctor is, well the more you tell me he is cool the less cool he becomes for me. I find them all shallow, ironic and unreal, and they dont actually do anything.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Like I said earlier seems an extreme reaction to me, it's still Who, and very much in the vein of classic Who. And not sure what you mean by 'and they dont actually do anything.' And who keeps telling us the Doctor is 'fantastic and cool'?- he just is because Smith plays him so well but the Doctor has always thought highly of himself as a character - 'You can't kill me, I'm a genius!'-2nd Doctor. I dont see anything different in the writing that is 'telling' people he is this or that.
I personally dont like the Pertwee years much, doesn't feel like my idea of Who- but Inferno is still great and some of the other stories even though is still not my idea of Who. I would think that episodes like Vincent and the Doctor, the Girl Who Waited, the Time of Angels or the Impossible Astronaut have plenty of merits on their own as Who stories regardless of the Pond factor.
As to them being a bit to clever and witty- thats Moffats style- so is Sherlock.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Talking of Who and Sherlock there are a lot of similarities between the two- both being about a person who is intellectually miles above anyone else in the room and who is 'alien' because of it.
Heres a scene from Lets Kill Hitler that demonstrates how similar they can be. Do not watch if you have not seen this far- this scene could not be more of Spoiler f it came round your house sat next to you on the couch and whispered the plot in your ear!-You have been warned.
On an unrelated matter, just stumbled acoss this clip while looking for the one above- this is another scene from the same episode.
The last bit- where the interface says 'fish fingers and custard' is nicley ambigous- its the only time the voice lacks the 'computerised' sound element- but is it only in the Doctors head? Or is it the TARDIS doing it? Never been sure. What do you think?
I've put this up before ages ago but worth a bump. The brilliant and despicably talented Thomas Rees - Kaye and Tony Coburn do the 10th and 11th Doctor.

In their Tennant Years spoof I'm afraid Rose, her chavy kitchen sink dramaness and the startling increase in the size of her teeth as the series progressed are all equally and as harshly mocked as Amy and Rory- they do it to everyone. But you can tell it comes from a place of love so they get away with it.

I don't make them myself, no wish I could though. No, you see, I live on tumblr at the moment and it's booming with Sherlock gifs and stuff, avengers and tom hiddleston and at the moment today has been all about bafta
Re: Doctor Who [2]
Lots of Who news- some of it will be in spoilers as its about the upcoming series.
But first up heres a short intro movie made by the cast to showoff their new Who studios.
Interview with Moffat on the Richard Bacon show- havent found it on youtube yet so for now you need access to the BBc iplayer- interview starts about 7mins in.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01j8fd8/Richard_Bacon_28_05_2012/
You're not getting shorter and shorter seasons, we're just splitting it over Christmas; we're making the same number of episodes as usual - I can tell by the grey hairs on my head - but we delayed it a few months to start it later in the year, that's all that's happened.
There's no chance of the BBC giving up on Doctor Who: it's a huge money spinner, it's doing better than ever abroad, the global number of people watching Doctor Who has just gone up and up and up, it was the most downloaded show on American iTunes last year - not a chance of the BBC giving up on Doctor Who, not at all.

- Spoiler:
- The episode currently being filmed is not Jenna's first episode - that will be this year's Christmas Special (which Moffat reports is still being written and well overdue!) - but will be one of the 2013 episodes; it has been written by Neil Cross (Spooks/Luther), and is being directed by Jamie Payne (Ashes to Ashes, Primeval and the recent Call the Midwife). Locations filmed thus far have included the Manor House at Plas Llanmihangel, Margam Country Park and Gethin Woodland Park - the latter eliciting a comment from alternative rock group Let It Fall, who tweeted: "Soooo.. We was going to write some music in the woods, but we bumped into the Dr. Who film crew, cool ay?". Other unconfirmed reports indicated another trip 'across the bridge' to England late last week, possibly to Bristol's historic harbourside.
- Spoiler:
- Mark Gatiss confirmed that he was writing a story for 2013 to Digital Spy at BAFTA, saying that "it's for the new companion, Jenna-Louise Coleman, that's all I can tell you or I will actually be shot!"
[spoiler]As well as Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and Neil Cross, other writers believed to be contributing towards the eight episodes featuring new co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman are John Fay and Tom MacRae.
- Spoiler:
- Some of the recent names to be confirmed in the next series include: for episode two, Riann Steele (Death in Paradise) as Queen Nefertiti; for episode four, Mark Williams continues his role as Rory's father Brian, Steven Berkoff (The Borgias) as Mr Shanks, Stephen Blything as Henry, Ruthie Henshall (The Case), Jemma Redgrave (Cold Blood, Bramwell) as Kate Stewart; and for episode five, Rob David (Rome) as Sam Garner and Michael McShane (Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Clerks, Spawn) - the latter said on Twitter: "Getting ready to leave for Cardiff to be a villain in Dr.Who!! YEEESSSS!!!«. In my episode the Doctor finds he's got a;:/;;zapppppp GACK. sizzle,hissssss......« Most fantastic time doing Doctor Who; best cast and crew I've been with in a while! Long live Gallifrey...« Can't say what I did In Doctor Who, or Steven Moffat will ride in on a horse and crush my head with a mace, like Mel in "Braveheart"..sorry.«"
Caitlin Blackwood, aka the young Amelia Pond, was a guest at last weekend's Timegate convention, and when asked about possibly appearing in the next series she avoided the answer, instead miming having her lips zipped shut and saying "spoilers"...

Re: Doctor Who [2]
just pre ordered 'Whispers Under Ground' the third book in a series by Ben Aaronovich the Who writer turned novelist, if you like Gaiman and are waiting his next book, this is a good substitute. Its kind of Gaiman Lite and Harry Potter mixed up with Prime Suspect/Whitechapel, the character is a wizarding policeman. Its set in London and the Rivers are actual gods, its very good indeed, I recommend it.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Who news time again.
You will be pleased to know Mrs Figg, Amy and Rory are back! Well sort of, they were suposed to be finished but have come back to do some pick ups and a few exterior shots that were weathered off previously.
The BBC have released the first official on location shots of the Doctor and new companion (who despite Moffats delibrate confusing of things appears quite human and modern- but its Moffat so who really knows!)
