But back to the whole Thrain idea, did anyone notice how tall he was?? Isn't he too tall to be a dwarf? And why did Gandalf go to see Radagast in the first place? What if (theoretically) Radagast was posessed by Sauron, and this lead Gandalf to call the white council together and so on and so on... (I might need an accuracy check on when this meeting actually occurs in the story)
I'm just throwing that out there. Besides, Radagast lives with animals anyway! he probably looks like a zombie.

In the book (which, to be fair, isn't necessarily a guide for what will happen in the films) the White Council's meeting was already scheduled and Gandalf was rather antsy to get there in time. I don't think Radagast is mentioned at all in the book except in passing between Gandalf and Beorn, though I'm not positive about that. But I really do think that the figure in the trailer is Thrain. Yes, he's tall, but a lot of the Dwarves in the movie are pretty tall.

Its NOT Radagast I dont know why people would ever think it was, Radagast is an animal loving peaceful chap, not at all the type to have a dig at his old mate Gandalf. its bonkers Thrain who is having the fistycuffs.

I would hate for you to drive your nuts into danger Mrs Figg! It depends on which version of windows you have, but essentially you can dispay a pic as your desktop either at its original size, tiled or stretched to fit the screen size.
Stretched will probably look bad for the poster, tiled annoying, and original size too small and ony at best fill the middle. The main problem is the poster format is not very useful for tv style display.
You could try cropping into a more friendly shape then using a prog to resize the image to something closer to your desktop resolution.

Someone went through the 1080p HD version of the trailer and got the first clear snapshot of a troll.

There's a version of the poster that was resized to work as a wallpaper available for download on www.thehobbit.com

To set it as a wallpaper in Windows, you should be able to just right-click on your existing wallpaper while you have all your programs minimized and select one of the options from that menu. It may even be labelled "Change desktop background", in which case you just follow the directions. I haven't used Windows in a while though, and I'm not sure what version you have, but it's pretty standard. Note that you will have to have saved the image to your hard drive first and then select it from within the window that comes up when you choose something from the right-click menu on your desktop.

Moreso than the cave troll in FotR, but that isn't saying much...

Ah, you beat me to it! You're right about the noises, I can't hear any speech either. We haven't seen it all yet, however, so I'm still hoping!

True, but it's the middle of a fight scene and the Dwarves aren't exactly talking each other. I think I said earlier that I expected the trolls speech, if they have any, to be more bestial than in the books and I wouldn't be surprised if they also roar. But I wouldn't be surprised if they have a tiny bit of speech too.

Yeah and exactly how many conversations between the fellowship do you hear in the Moria fight, beyond name shouting, there is an awful lot of grunting there too!

Anyway! I chose the name Norc or Nork because my friend calls me that. Has something to do with me being a total LOTR nerd (orc) and something to do with a moominvalley character (children series) called Snork, a bit of a looser really, he wanted to build a flying ship. So combined with my name, it turns out Nork/Norc. I had no idea it meant something else...

Mrs Figg. You download your poster. As big as possible. Try to remember where you saved it. click with your right click. Menu pops up. click set as desktop backround or something like that. If it looks stretched. right click your background and choose hmm.. what is it in english? erm.. something.. and... erm... sorry.. that's all I know with computers

I didn't so much mean that because they grunt at that particular moment they can't speak. I should have been clearer- I was meaning more the sort of grunting they make sounds to me exactly like the cave trolls- ie animal, non sentient, therefore non talking. It was more the sort of noise rather than it just being noises, if you follow.

The thing you have to understand about Odo (and the rest of us) is that none of us are entirely serious when we post here. Some people *coughodocough* are more fond of blending fantasy and reality than other. Skattykatzenfjord is our term for Norway, just like Ozhobbitstan is our term for Australia and Scotshobbitland is our term for Scotland (though the last is more evident). We have members from all of those places and the terms came about organically through conversation.

As for whether or not anything Odo says is true, it rather depends on the specific thing he is saying, but I recommend being skeptical.

Skattykatzenfjord, Norc, is Odo's idea of what Norway is like Read through some of the "wholesome tales" in the creative corner, and you'll get an idea of the place

It looks like Gandalf does some sort of magic. It might just be to give him something uber dramatic to do and reminiscent of Moria when he shouts the turn to stone incantation. The sun seems to breaking over the horizon behind him as he does it. But still looks like he has some sort of active role in what happens rather than just keeping them arguing too long.
I suppose it all hinges on if the trolls talk or not. If they dont talk he can hardly outwit them as he does in the book, so they will have to have replaced it with something else.

(3) The Archet Bugle publishes Wholesome Tales. It's by some Anonymous Person. How dare I be accused of writing such morally dubious material! Outrageous! (Yes, I now see that Wholesome Tales has lost it's original purpose. The last two or three tales have been crude, vulgar, naughty and not-at-all-comfortable. Why not publish the older-type stories? The moral ones!)

I'm glad to see that Martin Freeman has (oversized contract notwithstanding) apparently passed the crabbit meter test! He was easily the best part of the trailer after the song. I'll admit I'm a bit surprised that the meter survived this experiment, but I guess that says something about the quality of the trailer. Top-notch work, Petty!
