Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
I must say that having seen the trailer and reading peoples first reactions, I was at first a bit disconcerted at seeing Gandalf and Galadriel in a seemingly romantic moment, but on reflection I think I was seeing that gesture of hers from a 21st century prospective, I think the gesture was of tenderness and affection, from one old friend to another, it was a quiet and unexpected moment but interesting as they must have been friends for centuries when you think about it.

Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
On the subject of who Gandalf was fighting, I threw together this comparison after someone brought up the actor on TORn. Maybe it's a bit of a stretch but I thought it was worth sharing. Do you guys see a visual similarity between the two?

Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
I cannot see why Gandalf would fight Radagast - if I'm missing something, enlighten me! It's much more likely that he's fighting Thrain, and if the zombie (again, why would Radagast be a zombie?) is one of the two, he looks more like Mizrahi than McCoy. That said, I don't like the idea of Gandalf fighting Thrain. I'm turning into Petty over here

Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
I perhaps should have been clearer about the no Tolkien mention- I meant within the bulk of the trailer. They mention PJ twice, bunging the actual creator and source of the entire thing on a last screen that flashes up so fast you have to pause it to read it does not bloody count!!!

An even clearer image of "Thrain" that looks like Mike Mizrahi: https://2img.net/h/oi41.tinypic.com/dcc56v.jpg This one seals it for me.

Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
Wow.. I haven't though of the posibility of Thrain made into a zombie! It is so far fetched I doubt it, but PJ may overdo this whole Necromancer thing (and somehow I feel that he likes dead things and zombies). oh God, that would be terrible :S
It is Thrain, I am 100 % sure!
I tried reading the Hobbit in nynorsk, but I got so confused x) had to look up every other word you see, e.g what does "bjart" mean! lol, but I'll try to read "Ringdrotten". I bet it is interesting

I've ventured back into the dragon's lair (TORn) to read some of their speculation, and one interesting hypothesis I've come across is that Thrain was possessed by Sauron in the same way that Theoden was possessed by Saruman in The Two Towers. I personally find this to be unlikely, but either it or the zombie idea is probably what's going on. Or perhaps Thrain was just insane from his torture and thought everyone was a threat. I find the latter to be less likely, though.
I worry about PJ going over the top (again) in The Hobbit, though I hope the influence of GDT on the scripting process will have gone some way towards reigning in the worst of PJ's excesses.

The LotR trilogy will always be a favourite of mine, but I'm not so sure about The Hobbit. Based on what I've seen so far I'm not very optimistic, but it's still a year and many trailers away
Norc: If you found the Hobbit had many words like "bjart" and whatnot, you might want to wait a little while with the Lord of the Rings (in nynorsk) - the translator goes crazy with words like that in his translation

I think that's a very good point. On further thought, I think that Galadriel's scene with Gandalf mirrors her scene with Aragorn in FOTR much more than Aragorn's scenes with Arwen. However, I do question the need for such a scene. On the one hand, the handling of Aragorn's self-doubt in LOTR was over the top and pointless in my opinion. On the other hand, book!Gandalf is more vocal about his doubts than book!Aragorn, which does open the door for a more vocal portrayal of said doubts in the films without throwing out the book. I'll try to stay open-minded about this idea until I see where (if anywhere) they take it.

I actually feel much the same way. The main difference is that this trailer has gotten me more excited and optimistic, which it doesn't seem to have done for you. I can understand why that is, and I'll admit I'm in a fanboyish mood right now.
Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
I'm happy you liked it, Eldo, because it means more buckie for me and Petty

Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
it is defo Thrain, and its not Gandalf fighting Thrain, its Thrain who attacks Gandalf I think, after years of torture he was probably bonkers and saw enemies everywhere. He could have thought Gandalf was the Necromancer come to torment him some, and just started swinging about with a sword. I think this will probably be the beginning scene before Gandalf reasons with him, after all Gandalf could just magic him as he is far more powerful than Thrain, I think its defo in Dol Guldur, the necromancer may not have needed the usual boring dungeon, Thrain could have been allowed to wander about a desolate ruin guarded by ghosties or something equally orrible.

Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
If it's PJ's idea it will no doubt be orrible, Mrs Figg. Though I reckon you're right - Thrain throws a wobbly because he's mad as a hatter. Fantastic melodrama it will be, I'd hazard. Will it be a flashback, I wonder?

I demand to know the answer to this! What a wonderful word, its sounds faintly unrespectable.

PJ's Facebook
This post was made just about an hour ago, so it's doubtful he was referring to the trailer. My fingers are crossed for another production video.

Not at all unrespectable! It has two meanings (that I am aware of): In this sentence: "Eit bjart sverd" the word means shining (a shining sword). It could also mean beautiful, as in "Ei bjart jente" (a beautiful girl). Respectable enough, I'd say

Re: HOBBIT TRAILER #1
Oh my goodness, that "word" takes me back to something that happened in my younger days at Our Lady's. You see, we went on a "Growing Up Away from Mummy anbd Daddy" Camp in Skattykatzenfjord. This was back in '47, I think, when there were more Lady Norwayans, some of them comely, or relatively speaking 'comely', they were still Norwayan Lasses! Anyway, I chanced to be in the Marketplace - the one near Ringo Herring the Fourth's herringry on the Port of Herringskat. We were sauntering along in all innocence - I was holding hands with Prelander Pettingcote, third in the line - and we came to the Market Octagon - which is like a Square in some ways, but with eight sides. In the centre of the Octogon there was an all girl jugband playing - though you can never be certain if Norwayans are actually girls and not just budding drag queens as you know. The jugband had a young girl singing. She did not look unlike Norc, in fact. Anyway, to cut to the quick, as soon as she saw us students in our neat clothes with our neat brushed feet sauntering in our neat and orderly line, she began to sing, and she was looking straight at us! Now, all of us were no more than sixteen - except me, who had been kept back a couple of years, having failed Naked Callithenics three years running, it being a class I had trouble concentrating in. Anyhow, the point I'm making is, the girl's song was very discombabulating - and it's not a word I use lightly!
"Ooh come on down to my house, baby,
Let me show you my bazookies,
We'll sing songs and laugh a lot, maybe,
and dance around like kookies.
I want to get all crumbly-bumbly,
Show my moonie, shining white,
Take my hand, we'll get all fumbly,
Let's fumble, baby, all through the night.
I'll paint your body black and bluesy,
With golden lines in robust art,
And when we're naked in my jacuzzi,
That's when we'll grind and writhe and bjart."
I never found out what that was all about, but even to this day I often have dreams filled with colour, wrist-ties and steam! Primmy and Bella tell me I'm always far more fun after I've had that dream, but I don't know, it makes me feel all dizzy and tingly for days, and isn't that a sign of heart troubles?
