The 2011 Annual Forumshire Awards Empty Re: The 2011 Annual Forumshire Awards

Post by Eldorion Tue Dec 20, 2011 5:48 am

I'm thrilled to see this back, and you've done a fabulous job on it, Petty! Very Happy I'll offer some thoughts on the Forum Awards, probably with more to follow as I have more time to think on this. Smile The categories I don't comment on look good to me (though I may have more to say on them at a later date).

Pettytyrant101 wrote:1. Most Liberal. Noinees- Orwell, Mrs Figg, Kafria, Ally, Saradoc, Gandalf's Beard

Lorient should also a nominee. I'm not sure how liberal Orwell really is either; he seems more in the middle to me, but he can speak for himself in this thread, of course. Ringdrotten should also be in this category.

2. Most Pure. Nominees- Petty Tyrant, Eldorion, Odo, Ringrotten, Chris, Elthir

Ringdrotten is a dirty liberal (though we love him! Very Happy) and was in that category last year. Barring some unannounced change of heart, I think he should be in that category again. Wink Otherwise it looks good to me. Very Happy

3. Most Respected- Orwell, Kafria, Eldorion, Ringdrotten, Tinuviel, Saradoc, Chris

Self-proclaimed Master of Respectability Odo Banks needs to be in here.

10. Best Newspaper- Daily Purist, News of the Pure, State News, Archet Bugle

It isn't fair for Pure Publications to have two bites at the apple. The original -- the Daily Purist -- should be nominated but NOTP is an extension thereof and should not (as awesome as it is). Also, Squach's The Hobbit Goss hasn't had an edition in a while but it deserves a nomination too. Smile

11. Best Newcomer - Mrs Figg, Elthir (further names pending awaitng a date joined check!)

I went ahead and looked at the memberlist. I think that "Best Newcomer" should be open to people who joined since the last forum awards, or in other words, up to a year ago. With that in mind, I nominate (in rough order of when they became active): Kafria, Squach, Baingil, Elthir, Amarie, Leelee, Lorient, Mrs Figg as the standouts of the past year.

Also, I think we should bring back the category of Most Missed for those who went missing in the past year (as opposed to those inactive since before the last Awards):

12. Most Missed - Hail Manwe, Lester Cat, Nagual, Noom, Gandalf's Beard, Baingil

Also, replacing Biggest Pessimist from last year, I propose the category of Most Crabbit.

13. Most Crabbit - Petty, Pretty, Orwell, Eldo, Mrs Figg

This has a dangerous level of overlap with Most Pure, however, so I also propose the award of Most Fun:

14. Most fun - Chris, Tin, Saradoc, Kafria, Squach, Odo (anyone else who wants to put themselves forward for this or Most Crabbit should be free to do so!)

And to commemorate the tumultuous year for our community, I propose a special one-time award: Best Savior of Forumshire.

15. Best Savior - Eldo, GB, Petty, Baingil, Odo (since he insists)

That's all for now; I'll weigh in on the Movie Awards later. Smile Again, I'm thrilled to see this back! cheers

I have adjusted the nominees appropriately Eldo.
On the point of the Most Missed, I was thinking of not having a category for that this year on the basis they are all missed equally, and was considering whether an honorouble roll call would not be more appropriate this year-what do you think?

Now that you mention it, I like that idea more than having them be voted on. I agree, a roll call of the Missed is a very good idea.

I had actually considered suggesting that for the Savior section, but then I thought that perhaps we could finally settle who gets responsibility for it. Razz But then, all the nominees in that category also deserve recognition!

The 2011 Annual Forumshire Awards Empty Re: The 2011 Annual Forumshire Awards

Post by Pettytyrant101 Tue Dec 20, 2011 6:54 am

Another change I was thinking of making this year was to the voting. As it is one member one vote the possibilty of a draw arises, and some awards last year were joint winners. I think for an awards ceremony there should only be one winner per award. So I propose in the event of a draw the Admin, mods, royalty and the new Mayor get casting votes. If that remains a tie the final decsion would rest with Lord Eldo.

Post by Eldorion Tue Dec 20, 2011 7:07 am

I like that system. Cool The only potential problem I could see arising is that it could make the voting process take longer, though we can always put a time limit on how long admin/mods/royalty/mayors have to cast secondary votes before it goes to third-level deadlock or a majority of the people who voted thus far.

Alternatively, we could have a runoff vote open to everyone, but that might be too much democracy. Suspect And it would necessitate posting the preliminary results, which I think runs counter to the effect of the grand unveiling at the end (which was made spectacular last year by our most crabbit of hosts). Very Happy

I don't think a run off would work- it would take to long and as you say give away the front runners. Not good for a live show!
I think once public voting closes and the votes are counted there will be 24 hours for any casting votes on tied decisions to be made, then regardless of if everyone elegible to have a casting vote has used it or not that decision stands, unless its still tied then it goes to you Eldo with the decding vote. That way there's only 24 hours between voting ending and having the results.

I think we need to have a new category for the Movie Awards: Best Part of the Trailer! Very Happy Some nominated parts are: Martin Freeman as young Bilbo, Dwarves singing Over the Misty Mountains Cold, Shots of Chip the Glasses and Crack the Plates, Bilbo finding Sting, and the first view of Gollum.

On the flipside, the Worst Part of the Trailer nominees should include: Beardless Dwarves, Bifur's axe in his head, Gandalf's magic attack on the trolls, Gandalf fighting Thrain in Dol Guldur, Galadriel and Gandalf's tender moment, and (just for you Petty!) almost no mention of Tolkien. Razz

The scenes with Ian Holm and Elijah Wood could go in either category depending on ones filmic leanings.

Also, should we perhaps change the "Song you want to see included" category? It seems evident that at least two will be included based on the trailer. Smile

Yes I was thinking about the song ctaegory earlier- it looks like chip the plates might be in there and break of day definently is, is it worth keeping the category at all for those that remain?
No objections to a best and worst trailer bits category.

I'd be happy to keep the category as "Remaining Songs You'd Still Like to See" or some such. However, in addition to the two you mentioned, I'm not sure if Road Goes Ever On should be included. It was used in LOTR, after all, and will likely be repeated in The Hobbit. But that can be your call. Smile

Glad to get your approval on the trailer categories. I think those are important to have since the trailer just came out and its spurred a lot of activity both here and elsewhere. I'll try to come back and comment on the rest of the Movie Awards tomorrow when I'm more awake.
