Just the sort of thing to make a bibliophile's heart go all warm and mushy, isn't it Amarië?

In the tongue of the ancient Skattykatzenfjordians, 'negatoro'! Comes out on Boxing Day (26/11/2012). We're a bit behind the times down here you see. I'll leave it about a week, then go and see it - when there are less excitable people going there who might annoy me with their fidgetting and anxious clenched fists and their children and their mobile phones - not that there's anything wrong with mobile phones!

I mean "cult" in the most respectable way possible, of course. "The word was first used in the early 17th century denoting homage paid to a divinity and derived from the French culte or Latin cultus, ‘worship’, from cult-, ‘inhabited, cultivated, worshipped,’ from the verb colere, 'care, cultivation'."I might be able to Save you yet!
You're certainly welcome to try, especially if your cult involves good potluck suppers!
I can never decide what to bring to a potluck so I usually just bring my sarcasm and negative attitude. But never never carrots. Oh God.

Nice thing about your church, Chris, is you never have to ask where the loo is.

Re: Religous debates and questions
So the LDS missionary age was lowered to 18 in October. Looks like I'll be going out around next summer most likely. For those of you who don't know, Mormon young men age 18(formerly 19) are encouraged to serve 2 year "missions". If they decide to, they are called by our church leaders to somewhere, could be almost anywhere in the world, that the church leader is "impressed" to send them. There they attempt to convert people to the LDS church.

Re: Religous debates and questions
I hope that it's a positive experience for you, Lorient. Being a heathen myself I have mixed feelings about the practice of missionary-ing(?) but I know a few people who have done missionary work in Africa and they're all very nice people. At the very least, getting to travel to a distant part of the world must be a great experience. Do you have any idea in advance where you might go? LDS missions are big in Asia, right?
Re: Religous debates and questions
No idea at all until you're called, and it could literally be to almost anywhere, no matter you're skill set, and no matter where you want to go. Sometimes it works out, I know a guy who is big into Japanese language and culture and studied Japanese a little before being called and he is currently in Japan. On the other hand, I've heard of someone who was really good in Spanish and got called to Hungary, like I said, anywhere (if its allowed, China doesn't allow LDS missionaries for example). Asia is a relatively big one, a lot of guys go to the Philippines, South America is pretty common too. Its happening more and more though that guys don't get called to foreign missions as often as in the past. That is partially because as new people get converted, them or their children can become missionaries and many people are starting to get called to their native country. Less and less people go to Europe though because it has become so difficult, as Europe becomes more and more rejecting of religion, to convert really anyone. Most people I know have gone state-side, but like I said I know several who have gone foreign.
Personally, I would like to stay stateside or go to New Zealand, Australia or the UK (however unlikely that last one is). But I really have no idea until I get that envelope in the mail next year.

Well if you end up on the East Coast hit me up. And if you go to New Zealand try to visit Hobbiton if you have time off and be sure to take lots of pictures for us.

Re: Religous debates and questions
Two Elders came to my door, one fromidaho and one from Elko Nevada. I visited with them for a couple of months. Then one phoned me at work and asked me to marry him. He sent his parents to check me out and they were as sweet and nice as he. He told his Bishop and he was transferred to another province ., He sent me a one way ticket to live at his home town with friends but I am a Messianic Jew and I knew a lot about you all from my dear friend who sang in the Tabernacle choir one year and I was not yet nineteen.
My terrible confession is the woman who raised me just died and I was a mess. So after trying and failing to explain, I ran away and went to another province with my cousin one night following work. To this day I hope he could forgive me and I hope he married and wonderful Mormon girl and still is happy. So be careful. Falling in love wrecked things for a while for him.
So a warning to you. Dont wear your heart on your sleeve.

Druids have missionaries, I think they are called Eco-warriors now. I have never studied Druidism because I am forbidden from doing so by the Powers That Be, but I think I am an unconscious Druid.

My friends think Im some sort of weird Tree hugger. I love mystical things,& wandering, alone, deep in the countryside, Id rather drink nettle tea for an ailment than ingest man made chemicals, I go by the seasons, I watch animal behaviour & go by that, Id be happy, so desperately happy living in a ramshackle cottage, deep in a wood where no one knows Im there, wearing floaty hippy dresses & dancing barefoot in the moonlight, a fire crackling outside & surrounded by wildlife.

Leelee-
That was not the best decision for him to make. I know a couple people who met their wives on their missions, but they went back afterwards and proposed, not during. I will definitely take your advice.
Petty-
That would be a cool but difficult one! I'd really like to ho there

Re: Religous debates and questions
The couples that have been married for over 50 years are the couples that married young. They GROW together. Thus growing old together.
