Re: Music
Seeing this on You tube made me smile today.
Loved this duos first album,
was sad to hear they had split and then pleased that the music they had been working on is still coming out.

Re: Music
Part way through UK tour they cancelled dates and announced they'd split. But new music has been slowly been appearing, as to whether it is just stuff they worked on before the split or the signs of a reconciliation no one knows.

Re: Music
I wouldnt normally think to listen to Kenny Roger songs, not being a Country and Western fan particularly.
But years ago this song was on the Driver 2 soundtrack and it very much spoke to my state of mind at the time!
Still does actually.

Re: Music
Never heard it before, but that's an awesome song Never heard yours either Azriel, but of course I know the artist's name - she sings Into the West as well, if I recall correctly Great voice indeed. I myself am listening to Jackson Browne alot lately. My favourite songs so far (and of the few I've listened much to):Pettytyrant101 wrote:
Before The Deluge
The Barricades of Heaven (the song starts at about 25 seconds). The studio album version is great too, but this live version is excellent I think. I just love the sound of a violin; if there is a God, my future wife will play one
Another great one - These days (Warren Zevon I've mentioned a couple of times here, and it's because of him I got to know about Jackson, but Zevon doesn't sing here, despite the name of the vid). Another live version, way better than the studio album version
I must seem like a depressive bastard

Re: Music
I dont think your depressive Ringo ! Music often mirrors your moods or the stage you are in life, admittedly, the melody can sometimes sound grey but, its the words that often matter ! Thats why I dislike "pop" SO much ! its all "I luv u, I miss u, I wanna shag u" Oh wow! very articulate & deep meaningful thoughts ! Its 3 repetitive words & lines over & over again against a catchy few chords For real understanding of life Country/western, Rock & Metal DO have things to say if you just listen. And its not ALL doom & gloom !

Couldn't agree more :)Of course the melody of a song is important, but it doesn't have to be all pumped up. But it doesn't matter much how good the melody is if the lyrics resemble something a five year old could have written.

Ok I'm going to admit my ignorance (and probably Eurocentric bias) here- I had never heard of Charles Ives before- but I did like it.

Re: Music
I'm not overly fond of country music, but these four guys are among my favourite artists (both as individual musicians and as a group). It's been a while since I've listened to them now, and after "re-discovering" them for the 20th time I suddenly felt like sharing They're all brilliant, and I've been lucky enough to attend both a Willie Nelson and a Kris Kristofferson concert. Kristofferson is the one of the four I've listened to the most; I'd say he's one of the best songwriters ever, but as I have no clue about music my words don't mean much. It's a good thing, then, that the experts agree with me Most of the songs in this vid will probably not appeal to those who can't stomach country, but the first one is cool whatever genre you prefer, and there are some pearls written by Kristofferson in there too

Re: Music
Alfred Schnittke - Concerto for Piano and Strings (1979)
Pits some very traditional sounds against some very post-modern sounds. This clash really comes to a head at the piece's climax with the piano's pounding atonality drowning out the orchestra's traditional chords (around 16:50 in the video). Gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. Schnittke presents a wonderful dichotomy between musical brutality and delicate lyricism (even in the melodies that are not governed by traditional tonality).
