In the Hall of the Mountain King was on the soundtrack to Elite: Frontier on the Commodore Amiga (beepy version) was the first time I heard the tune. See, who says you dont learn stuff playing games.

Re: Music
I recently started listening to entire albums for the first time since I stopped using a CD player on a regular basis, so I thought I'd try my hand at writing an album review. First up: Kanye West's sixth studio effort, Yeezus, chosen because I've been on a bit of a Kanye binge lately.
When I listened to Yeezus for the first time earlier this week I wasn't sure if it was proof that Kanye West has finally lost his mind or if I was just unable to accept the next stage of his musical evolution. Having listened to it a couple more times, though, I'm really not feeling it. Kanye's always had a good ear for production, but the beats on Yeezus are just too dark, oppressive, and harsh for me. I know that the distorted and compressed sound is a deliberate stylistic choice, but I find it simply unpleasant to listen to. The lyrics are the real problem though. Kanye's ego appears to still be growing, and is rapidly eclipsing his sense of humor and self-awareness. I've never found his attempts at social commentary to be convincing or genuine, but he's only degenerated thematically over the past decade. If Kanye is really this upset with his life of luxury, then he needs to see a therapist, not whine into a microphone yet again. Aesthetically, Yeezus also highlights many of Kanye's shortcomings as a rapper, which to be fair have been present for his entire career. I admire Kanye's efforts to try something new with every album, but I don't see myself listening to Yeezus six months from now, outside of perhaps one or two of the catchier tracks. Because he's always changing, though, I'll listen to his next album whenever it comes out despite how annoying I find Kanye the celebrity.

Re: Music
I think kanye has major shortcomings as a human being let alone as a rapper.
I cant say I have listened to too much stuff of his other than the stuff released as singles.
Not my cup of tea!

Re: Music
I do my best to separate Kanye the person and Kanye the musician. Granted it's hard since his more insufferable traits often bleed over into his lyrics but I can't deny that he has genuine talent (though he's far from being the greatest).
I like quite a bit of stuff from his first three albums. I haven't listened enough to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy to have an opinion on this, but Yeezus feels more like an ill-advised experiment like the endless autotuned pop singing on 808s & Heartbreak (though very different musically).

Re: Music
That sort of music in general doesn't resonate with me. I'm more in to music itself than either lyrics or production. That kind of genre always seems focused on one or the other and that just isn't my bag baby!
Re: Music
Fair enough. This is definitely not an album to convert anyone to hip hop. There's not very much instrumentation, either.

Re: Music
Eldo. You are a man-boy now (quoting leelee here). You are allowed to say explicit stuff you know!
Re: Music
Hey, I actually cuss less now than I did when I was like 15.
But the main reason I'm not saying the sweet and sour sauce line is that it's stupid.

Re: Music
Thought this might be of interest to you Norc- not sure which days its on, or if you can pick up BBC radio 3 where you are but-
'Violinist Alina Ibragimova is the soloist for a concert from St Davids Hall, Cardiff. Alina will perform Huw Watkins new Violin Concerto that was written specifically for her. Mahlers emotionally charged Fith symphony is also on the bill.'
Problem is Im not sure exactly when except sometime between now and the end of the week!
