Your dad just scored several million cool points! Thumbs Up

I've only got 'silent brass system' and a cord (allegedly, I haven't actually seen it, but Finrod claims he has one) to plug it into the computer . Wonder if it will work...

What programs are used to do the recordings?

I use pro tools to record anything on guitar or drums. Not easy to get hold of that software for free though. There are probably a few other programs you could find that would do the job to get a track down to send to petty who can then arrange and mix.

You'll be flooding youtube with vids in no time. Laughing
And no fair, I have to do everything myself!

I wonder how my bit will turn out. What is my bit anyway? scratch

Silent brass system: Mute/mic and a small amplifier which gives ok sound, so I guess a program doesn't need to be too fancy at all.

Need to have a listen to the music and see what we can do between us. Might crack out my 12 string (which needs restringing) and try and give us a backing track of some kind. Cant be until the weekend at earliest though.

i got audiacity for free, my teacher downloaded it for me, but just google it i guess, i wouldn't promote downloading free-software sorry. also, i don't know how or where you'de find it.

Lance, if you're "composing" a backing yourself i'de suggest you try keep the key Smile one b, and take a look/here at different arrangements Smile

Think the piano version is helped by the quality of the recording. I love the sound of violins too (they sound great on the orchestra version) but in this case sound a bit like they have been recorded a little less unprofessionally.

Not sure we are going to manage Abbey Road quality ourselves but think we can put something great together.... probably using something close to the arrangement the violin player uses as the piano one is a little too long for our firs attempt.

Also youtube'd a cornet to make sure I had the sound of it in my head.

Amarie - think it may be perfect for a solo piece on its own... there is a little section in the middle where it slows down, could hear a cornet there.

Violins sound great when they are layered playing, each playing different notes of the chords (sure there is a musical term for it that I cant think of). There is a lot of layering in this piece which would suit violins very well!!

Audacity is an open source program. So yes, it is free. Smile

I don't think I've ever seen Bratsj nøkkel before. I might be able to handle F-nøkkel, but it's generally for deeper instuments than cornet. If it goes below C1 it usually doesn't sound too well. And I draw the line at four Bs. Gets too complicated. And prefably not above a2 Wink

G-nøkkel = G clef

the piano sounds good because it's not a piano you hear, it's a computer Wink and as i said, violin sound a bit off if there isn't any good microphones and/or mixing.

the violing arrangement is quite good, but it's (goes for all really) 7/8 "blocks" which means you have to count to 7 rather then four (which is normal, or 3 if you're doing a waltz) so it can be tricky Wink the arrangemnt is also quite short, so that's a good thing.

Violins sound great when they are layered playing, each playing different notes of the chords (sure there is a musical term for it that I cant think of). There is a lot of layering in this piece which would suit violins very well!!

well, i am only one person, but i'll see what i can do. (though violin could have some good part there too, i think it's an underestimated instrument)

i might put in some viola Smile to deepend the sound ^^

well, the bratsj nøkkel (nynorsk woohoo) is more like an alt-nøkkel (bratsj e en alt-fiolin på en måte), though if G is best for your instrument that makes sense, i was just wondering Smile

good thing this only has one b Wink

Really? Sounded a little complicated for that to have all been programmed. Sounded to me like a piece recorded within at least a reasonably good studio set up. Probably not something we would have access to even if we did have a god player here (although you never know... I had access to some good studios not so long back).

well, i am only one person, but i'll see what i can do

I believe in you!!! Obviously would be time consuming recording separate parts. I am no violin player though so I would leave to your better judgement since it seems both you and Amarie have some music theory behind you which I don't.

no it's a programm where all the piano sounds are in the program, like every pitch is in there seperately, and then you run the sheet music threw and it plays, not a person playing, the computer plays it. it leaves it really accurate when it comes to rythm, but really flat and boring when it comes to the actual music. (it's even more obvious when violins are pre-programmed in)

I believe in you!!! Obviously would be time consuming recording separate parts. I am no violin player though so I would leave to your better judgement since it seems both you and Amarie have some music theory behind you which I don't.
