I like the look of those 2 vids Chris ! Right up my alley ! Checked out Dracula earlier but, I cant stomach J.R.Meyers, Im not seeing him as a "Dracula"! He always comes across as weak, snidey & sleazy, (sounds like 3 of the 7 dwarves )

I spy some oscar performances (especially Michaiel Douglas)

I think there's some release issues that invalidate it for Academy Awards. Having to do with feeling the American Audience was too prissy to stomach a film like this.

Really? Its getting rave reviews at Cannes. I thought Americans were quite accepting of homosexuality in the media- your tv shows are full of it.

Im keen to see that Liberace film as well, poor old mum, how she used to love watching his TV show All the sparkle & flamboyance ! I had a feeling he was as bent as a 2bob note, mum nearly keeled over when she found out he was a corkscrew

Brokeback Mountain did well, and same sex marriage laws are starting to pass all over. But the Academy can be stuffy at times.

If the acting is as good as it sounds and the movie does OK at the box office I think they might be afraid NOT to honor it.

According to Wikipedia, Behind the Candelabra aired on HBO. To be eligible for an Oscar it has to be released in theatres.

It seems to be getting a worldwide cinema release- Cannes is a film festival isnt it?

Yeah, outside the US it seems to be released normally for a film. I dunno why it got picked up by HBO here.

Did a bit more poking around and apparently HBO financed the film after the director couldn't find a studio willing to invest in it.

Apparently it will be in theatres in the UK so there's a good chance it will be released the same way elsewhere in Europe.

Interesting article Eldo- his thoughts on cinema versus tv mirrors my own- cinema is quickly becoming just a place for pure specatcle- if you want a plot, character development or any sort of depth or message to a piece TV is now the place to make it for.
And I dont think its a natural migration either- but one made by Holywood attitudes that has forced good writes, directors, editors ect to seek out TV over film in frustration.
And thats a shame.

there's a new movie coming out, well, pre-production, not sure when, but it's about the man who broke the nazi code during wwll and Benedict will play and probably Keira Knightly too. the movie is called "the imitation game"

How dull- another one! Theres already been at least 2 films and one major tv drama about that in recent years. Kate Winslet was in the last one I think.

There was Bletchley Park and Enigma (its the one with Winslet in it and Dougray Scott I think) and a terrible US made one where the Yanks do it all- even though it happened before they even bothered turning up in the war in real life.

You mean as opposed to the terrible UK made one which ignores the fact that the Enigma code was first cracked by Poles?
