Re: Future releases
I can't say I watch that many disaster movies, but I'm a bit surprised that the mere presence of American characters in one was enough to make you so skeptical, Petty. I get tired of "AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!" movies as much as anyone else but while this certainly has the potential to be a big dumb action fest, it looks to be one of the more globally-minded blockbusters of recent years.
Re: Future releases
Well they to have a tendency to follow a familar pattern Eldo-
aliens/monsters invade earth- we see some token global tourist spots attacked (that Americans will recognise)- then the rest of the film follows either some average honest joes or a group of wisecracking marines about until someone wrapped in a stars and stripes or who is president saves the entire world- cue same tourist spot locations at end with defeated aliens/monsters and grateful populace cheering the US.
Would be nice to see a blockbuster alien/monster film thats a bit less of that, just once.

Re: Future releases
I get that, but from what I've seen of Pacific Rim so far (and to be fair I have not been following every single update that's come out) it seems to stand a relatively good chance of being something different. I won't know until I see the film, of course, but I'm trying to be optimistic here.

What? Like we could have gone through a page of this talk without it?

Re: Future releases
initailly i thought Star Trek's permiere was the 17th may and i was sad because that's like a red day (constitution day/independence day) but then! i saw it was the 15th! two days before us BUT THEN!!!! i looked on the local cinema/theatre! STAR TREK HAS IT'S PREMIERE ON THE 10TH OF MAY!!! IN YOUR FACE!!
Re: Future releases
Congratulations?
NB Will you be watching Iron Man 3? It smashed the box office in most of the countries it opened in last weekend and I've heard good things about it so I'm looking forward to seeing the film myself. It reaches the US tomorrow.

Re: Future releases
TBH I was thinking about passing on it, but I haven't gone to the movies since January. There's been very little that interested me in theatres, and I've also just not been in much of a movie mood. But there are a number of big movies coming out this summer that I am excited (if also a little bit apprehensive) about seeing. Star Trek is definitely among them as well.
Re: Future releases
yes, i mainly look forward to star trek, the hobbit and the hunger games, but i am sure there are many movies i've forgotten is coming out or that i don't know yet and well, i'm looking forward to this movie year ^^

Re: Future releases
The Telegraph arent to keen-
- Spoiler:
- 'Star Trek into Darkness is, by and large, a reprocessed version of an earlier film in the series, and your enjoyment of this new film depends almost entirely on your ability to spot links to the old one.
It took three men to come up with Star Trek into Darkness’s plot: Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who wrote the last film, and Damon Lindelof, who co-authored Prometheus and the television series ‘Lost’. Together they have come up with a very clever sleight-of-hand: all of the narrative cracks are papered over with references to old Star Trek characters and episodes. 'Hang on a minute,' you find yourself thinking, 'that doesn’t make sen ... oh look, a Tribble.'
Strange new worlds. New life. New civilisations. Boldly going where no man has gone before. That pioneer spirit? It’s gone.
