Re: Future releases
Why you cheeky little Norc!
Feanor- I used to like Ray WInstone- he's the best Will Scarlett ever- but he does seem tohave been playing the same charcater basically ever since.
I just dont see th epoint to remaking something like the Sweeney- there is no way to recapture the uniqueness or the impact it had at the time- and like most modern films you know exactly what you will get before you sit down to watch it.

Looks like a rip-off of LOTR. They even got an Ian McKellen doppelganger to play the wizard in a hat!

Re: Future releases
I haven't been following the news on this one too close, but apparently the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes is confirmed and they have a director (new) and writers (returning) lined up. It will continue to follow Andy Serkis' character from the first film.

Re: Future releases
I have high hopes of this, been good ruimblings coming from it and this seems to confirm that it will at least be a worthy remake- still not sure what the point is in remaking classic films- I always think there are so many films out there which were nearly classic but let down by some aspects- acting, directing, budget or some such that would be worth remaking- remaking something that is already considered good always seems a bit of a waste of time to me.

Re: Future releases
Very keen to see this- six stories intertwinged across space and time with actors playing multiple roles across each story -exploring actions and effects and how one person influences another. Cloud Atlas.

Re: Future releases
My faith in the Wachowski's was pretty shaken by The Matrix sequels (though I found the original to be pretty overrated) but I'm quite intrigued by Cloud Atlas. I have a feeling I'm going to either love it or be immensely disappointed even if it has some redeeming features (a la Prometheus).
Re: Future releases
I forgave them for the Matrix when they did V for Vendetta- which I think is not only their best film but one of the best most influtential films of that decade.

Re: Future releases
Has anyone of you seen "Cloud Atlas" yet?
I am sooo mad that it is only running in America yet
I've been waiting for this film for a very long time and now I can wait for another month until it comes to my country (or to Europe anyway)

In case there havent been enough zombie apocalypses yet heres another one- World War Z.
Bit weird watching this as all the bits that are supposed to be Philadelphia were shot in Glasgow- you can see George Square! I was sick in George Sq one new year.
So was Philly built to resemble Galsgow then?

Re: Future releases
If theyd called it something else and changed the character and ship names I wouldnt have minded so much- they made an enjoyable, popcorn munching action adventure set in the future.
Problem is St never was meant to be that. It was the intelligent, thoughtful version of Sci-fi- is should have been full of stuff like this-
or this-
Not this-
or this-
Spot the difference?

Re: Future releases
I do actually agree that Star Trek, With Picard, IS so much better, & at least with a series I can enjoy it as often as its on TV, I can separate the JJ Abrahms films from Tv easily,(which is a lot harder to do when watching PJs LOTRs) The films are a good relaxing evening out. A fun film to add to the catalogue of films I already own, & thats all it means to me, Im not a die-hard fan of Star Trek, but I do ENJOY them.

Re: Future releases
For me it just fundementally wasnt Star Trek- the very basic building blocks of ST are absent and in fact replaced with the exact opposite. Like attempting to make a souffle- then throwing out all the ingredients and replacing them with left over bits from a Mcdonalds Happy Meal instead.
ST tries to be about something- its a means to relfect back society- this was true from the very start- episodes like this-
or this -
or this-
Its not-
or this
or even
You see my problem.
