Empires less than sterling summing up in their review of Prometheus:

Verdict
Buffeted by a lack of suspense, threadbare characters, and a very poor script, the stunning visuals, gloopy madness, and sterling Fassbenderiness can’t prevent Prometheus feeling like Alien’s poor relation.

Not sounding very hopeful there.

That's definitely discouraging, though I still hope that I'll enjoy the film. If he's up to his standard in Inglourious Basterds, then the "Sterling Fassbenderiness" should be worth the price of admission alone. Very Happy

Stll not seen Cowboys and ALiens- I wanted to, looked fun- and then a couple of people I know who saw it said it was pretty awful and I put it on the backburner.

Eldo did you ever get round to Wickerman?

Not yet, but it's still in my Netflix queue! Actually, I watched Kill Bill Vol. 1 with my brother tonight as part of our very slow journey through Quentin Tarantino's filmography. (We've seen Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Inglourious Basterds so far.) I don't think either of us liked it as much as the other three we've seen, but it's only half a movie. We hope to see Vol. II later this week. It felt like a live-action anime to me in a number of places, and I think it has my favorite Tarantino soundtrack yet, so I have high hopes for part two. Cool

Unfortunately however, part one felt really disjointed to me and the dialogue was not nearly up to Tarantino's standards. My brother also observed that not a single one of the characters had any particular charm or likability, and we agreed that the action scenes got too goofy at times. I don't agree with people who say that Tarantino is all style and no substance, but to be honest, even I can't see that from Kill Bill so far. Neutral

Speaking of Tarantino, the first trailer for his upcoming film Django Unchained was released today. I haven't followed the news surrounding this one too closely since I don't want to get spoiled, but if the trailer is anything to go by (and that's always an if) it should be fantastic, Basterds-esque fun.

Im finding myself in less and less of a hurry to go see Prometheus the more I hear people talk about it. Not the sort of word of mouth campaign they were aiming for I am sure!

Out of the 5 Alien movies this would have to be the worst, not even the 3D could save it.
Don't think there was a scary moment in it.

Seems the Robocop remake is getting underway.
The cast is looking quite good but I wonder if it will retain the social satire of the original?

Samuel L Jackson has signed up to join the cast of the upcoming remake of the 1987 action film Robocop, according to reports.
The star will play "charismatic media mogul" Pat Novak, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Swedish actor and The Killing star Joel Kinnaman has already been cast as police officer Alex Murphy who is brought back to life as a cyborg.
Gary Oldman will also star as the scientist who creates him.- BBC

I dont remember either a 'media mogul' or Oldmans character in the original.
The scientist who made him was a hot women was not it not? (Or I may just have been a teenager at the time and she was just a women!).
And wasn't the bad guy the head of OCP or something- a huge multinational arms dealer not a media mogul?

If he is a media mogul I wonder if they will keep the ads for cheap baragian bin prostitutes with its tagline "I'd buy that for a dollar!"

I watched Prometheus with my brother a couple days ago. He really liked it (said it was even better than Alien) but I was rather disappointed. Production design and several of the performances were great, but the writing sucks ass and the themes are undeveloped. I felt like the film was bogged down by trying both to be an Alien-style horror movie and a religious/philosophical movie with something to say about Big Issues. It failed at doing either; there wasn't enough horror to be a horror movie (though one scene in particular was definitely horrific) and it just felt too small and confined outside of a few scenes to be a big religiously symbolic movie. Plus their religious commentary is ridiculous.

Spoiler:

Fassbender stole the show (mancrush confirmed I love you) but I honestly can't recommend this movie to anyone. I would have when I walked out of the theatre but the more I think about it the more frustrating this mess becomes. It shouldn't be surprising that one of the creators of Lost wrote the script.
