Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
During the shot of the white figure approaching Tirion that's familiar from the poster: "We now know this is Finrod". How do we know? Was there an anonymous leak?
I like the guess about the red scene being from the war of wrath, though it's good to see the commentator has done his homework and points out that it's more likely that Elrond was involved than Galadriel.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
Am I foolish or is the very red scene underwater? How is this anything but the first kinslaying and the rape of the ships?

The western side of middle earth was drowned during the war of wrath. but kinslaying fits as well. Have to look closely to see if there are any orcs or if all elveses.

Looked. Not sure if there are any orcses, but there's definitely some drowned architecture.

So the Critical Drinker built up a full head of steam to unleash this 10 minute deluge of unbridled crabbit. Jump to 2:35 for a LOL moment.

The Crit-Drinker is a little long-winded for my taste, but I do enjoy some crabbit.
He's a bit off about the line of kings bit, as the rule of Numenor passed to the eldest child regardless of sex.

Wasn't always so, but if we are talking about Ar-Pharazon it was old tradition.

Interesting!
Basically, is RoP not going to be an adaptation of Tolkien at all, but rather, largely an adaptation of Peter Jackson's version of Tolkien?

Seems to be.
BTW, did you note the reference that Meteor Man was Gandalf? Where did that come from?

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
{{ So the trailer was basically crabbit inducing start to finish and required being very drunk to cope with. Yes it looks very nice, but with all the money thrown at it of course it does. However the one shot that got me super crabbit, that exemplified for me that no matter how much cash you have, how skilled your artists are, if you dont understand or know what your doing it will still be wrong, was this shot of Durin (I presume) in Moria (I spat my buckie out I was so annoyed when I saw this shot)-
Notice the problem? - perhaps these two quotes from Fellowship will help-
'The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn
Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
There shone forever fair and bright.'
and..
'But it makes the darkness seem heavier, thinking of all those lamps.'
Lamps! Light emitting for hewn crystals. Not naked flame in brazzers that produce smoke and soot and dirty up your nice stonework- no dwarf would ever do that, not even to raw natural stone let alone to their own handiwork.
Its a small thing in and of its self, but its symbolic of the greater deeper issues. You have to first understand and know the material you work with before you throw all the money at it, because that might get you a pretty picture but one in which all the individual details are wrong. }}

There was another shot with some mirrors that were satisfactory, but you're right about the bowls of fire they have there!

{{ Its the grass issue all over again! Seemingly incidental but indicative of a deeper, fundamental lack of understanding about what makes Tolkien's world feel so real. }}

Kinda loses its bite when you consider that this is apparently not Sauron, but a female cultist.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
In the trailer itself you can see this same character standing in a high place, and the character is clearly a woman (it's the boobs).
There was a rumour that Anson Boon was playing Annatar. I don't know where that came from.
This is Anson Boon:
This is not Anson Boon:
The actor above is in fact an actress, Bridie Sisson:

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
If you scroll down and open the comments, there are several responses from Carl F. Hostetter, and then a counter-response from one of the article's authors that consists primarily of links to other articles. Of course nothing is said to apologize, correct, or defend the idiotic line from the article that "the face of evil in Middle-earth is invariably non-white/non-European."
This is because, of course, there is no defense for the line. The University echo chamber got a little too pleased with itself and cribbed out this trash article to fluff up each other and shallow-thinking progressive-type fans.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
So the Nerd Cookies lass decided it was time she posted a rant. And she tried, god help her she tried, but she just doesn't have it in her.
A proper rant requires
1. A clear logical mind to be turned upon the unfortunate object of derision
2. A sense of outrage and all the emotional apparatus that goes with it
In combination this can have a devastating effect. She's always had the logical mind in spades, and in fact we had a long online discussion about Dune in which she totally turned me to her side.
But emotion? Upon hearing her first submission I actually thought she had a computer voice reading the lines she'd written. During this video you occasionally hear the slightest breath of outrage creep into her voice - but you have to be listening intently or you'd think it may be a chance current in the distant solar winds affecting the recording ever so slightly.

God, she has rather a poor voice for radio, if you know what I mean.

All the actresses quotes add up to, "God I love having a job! More of this please! Properly casted actors can suck it."
