Wait, who, the 30-something who seems to be from a land south of the Southrons?halfwise wrote:How does he know that's Tar-Miriel? She's supposed to be strikingly gorgeous. Minor point but this actress is just average looking.

{{ She doesn't quite match the Numenorean racial type, no- 'Most of Númenor was settled by Edain of the House of Hador, who were golden-haired and tall, with fair skin and blue eyes' and if you take a look at her family tree there is no input from the South into it which might otherwise justify it. In her life time the lands of ME are largely subdued lands of Numenor, unlikely to be bred into the ruling family. So yeah, how she ended up black is a bit tricky to explain. It will be one thing, annoying, to arbitrary just make her black for the sake of a black character, by Ill be even more crabbit if they use her colour as some sort of play into her not being made Queen. }}

Ok. So we have teasers, we have trailers, we have teaser trailers. I take it that show > teaser > trailer, correct? What is the crossover point between a trailer and a teaser? If we get less than 5 minutes do we riot? Or does the riot depend on how good it is? Do we riot because it was bad, or riot because it was good and we only got 5 minutes?
This whole thing is very stressful for me.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
Trailers are rarely over two minutes. *looks up Endgame* Or two and a half for a big one.
This release coming on the 14th is a teaser. My prediction is around a minute and a half.
And then at Comic-Con towards the end of the month we should get a proper trailer. And that one I predict a little over two minutes.
And then in August perhaps some short clips?

Maybe for you!
For me the new trailer hits tomorrow.
I think we'll get some speaking lines from main book!characters, so I'm excited about that.

Oh, hey! Thanks for pointing out we haven't heard any main characters talk yet! Obvious in retrospect but I hadn't realized it.

First line a bit misleading for the second age.
I don't hear any Tolkien in the rest of the lines. The look is suitable for big screens, though.

I'm all for cute chicks especially if swinging a sword, but Galadriel should not feel like a girl-chick in SA. Should have some heft and wisdom. Not that we didn't see this coming almost from the moment of casting. She's also supposed to be tall. I'm okay with casting a young medium sized Galadriel, but she has to feel like Galadriel.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
The hobbits are so dirty...
For half a moment, when the trailer starts and we hear
"There was a time, when the world was so young..."
and there's an ascending bit of music with strings over RoP!Galadriel's face, well for a moment it was actually nice. But it was immediately wrecked by the piano chord. This is an oft-used bit of trickery in trailers, to end a swell of music and an anticipatory shot with a lingering note or chord high on the piano over a black background. The problem is that it is so often used as to sound generic. I suppose for a trailer it's alright to be generic, because generic is proven to work. I just wanted to comment on a nice moment at the start and how quickly it passed.
The drums are rather over the top, eh? By the end of the trailer one is sick of them.
This group of figures fording the stream and the group on the snowy mountain are the same? But the ones on the mountain are half in number, and while both groups wear cloaks the forders look darker. The second group seem to be guided by a giant.. eagle? The bird is grey, like their clothing. Surely these mountain-hikers include Galadriel after her ice-climbing?
Elrond: "You have fought long enough Galadriel... Put up your sword"
After 0:57 I think we see Galadriel and others in a blizzard with torches, and then presumably in an icy subterranean-looking place. Is she pulling a Gandalf and Legoland from The Hobbit trilogy and hunting around for this "enemy"?
The hobbits at the end... One is limping, and the other sort of waddling like a fat woman.
Oh my Lord I thought I lost all this typing when my computer unexpectedly shut down, but my browser saved it. Whew!

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
You never get plot from a trailer.
The first two people know nothing of Tolkien. The third one knows her stuff and picked more points of reference out of it than I did.
10 hours per season? Pretty short seasons, but makes sense for the amount of production that must go into it.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
You certainly can get plot from a trailer. You might not get any from a teaser.
Your mind on this matter is befuddled by decades of trailer trickery. But in a normal trailer, yes, you get plot.
Once the main trailer drops at Comic Con, I assume, then we shall see.
Sure wish people posted ideas more than YouTube links! Unless I go and watch them it's as though half the conversation is invisible to me alone.

You can't often watch youtube? Or don't think it's worth the trouble?
These moderately short ones are reasonable. I have political arguments with a friend who sends me 1.5 hour long videos. Sorry, not gonna watch that. Make your own points.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
I watched some of the video.I hope the checks from Amazon were nice and big lol.
Jk, but still, typical squees from the severe-hairdoo'd lady in the middle. Who gives a fuck about the gem being one that gets used for one of the three Elven rings (Galadriel's ring, Nenya, if that gem is a diamond), if major story elements are garbled beyond recognition?
This is exactly the kind of giddy consumer that Amazon loves. She's even bought into the Harfoot nonsense. "Yeah they're Harfoots, because hobbits didn't exist in the Second Age."
I mean, presumably they did, but we don't know. Harfoots are not proto-hobbits. Their origin is not necessarily earlier or later than Fallohides or Stoors.

It's polite to summarize a video when you post it, or highlight a point that you found interesting.

I guess the waddling Hob.. harfoots are waddling because of the big feet. Like walking with too big boots. They looked very uncomfortable.
I kinda liked that trailer. Very shiny and pretty, at least the trailer makers knows what they're doing. Very PJ inspired though, music and all.

I've noticed that when chickadee Galadriel is viewed from side angle she appears to have the same eyes as PJ-standard Galadriel. Almost convincing.
